Over my eleven years as a social development practitioner, with the last six years of dedicated work to human rights work, I have come to understand that fostering European cooperation, engagement with UN and international mechanisms and sustainable relations with international human rights organizations are essential to enhancing the human rights situation in the Middle East. Currently serving as a Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) manager at a human rights organization, I actively collaborate with several European and international human rights organizations in designing and implementing strategic practices to enhance the human rights situation in Egypt.
Since late 2016, I have been engaging extensively in designing projects and overseeing their implementation where we communicate with UN mechanisms, advocating within the international community, and fostering relationships with European partners. Identifying a common knowledge gap in reflecting the global context in monitoring and evaluation (M&E) practices within the human rights community, I am eager to bring this divide to elevate conceptualizing effective and impactful projects with innovative practices through studying and understanding European history, culture and complex dynamics.
My hiking need for a deeper understanding of the Eurocultural dimensions and how they influence our interaction and response to global dynamics is my initial drive to pursue my academic studies through this program. My academic journey commenced with a bachelor's degree in Sociology from Cairo University in Egypt in 2012, and through practical experience and mentorship from seasoned professionals, I have evolved into a proficient practitioner working with national and international organizations and stakeholders.
My involvement in social development projects in Egypt, particularly in the policymaking process for children in institutional homes, reflects my commitment to creating positive change. I successfully contributed to the development of Egypt's issuing of national quality care standards for children in institutional homes in Egypt in 2014. Because of my contribution, I was invited to join another national collaboration with the American University in Cairo in 2019 as a research assistant to engage in a field research project.
The Eurocultural program aligns with my professional aspirations, offering a unique exposure to legal, social, economic, and political perspectives. I am confident that my competencies developed through spearheading monitoring and evaluation strategies as well as my sociological background and fieldwork skills make me an ideal candidate for this program, especially considering the challenging environment I struggle through as an Egyptian woman in a competitive and limiting civil society of Egypt.
To further enrich my academic experience, in the summer of 2023 I completed a summer course at the University of Amsterdam on "Multilateralism, globalization, and corporate diplomacy". This course reignited my academic interests and paved the groundwork for my return to the academic sphere since my bachelor's graduation.
In conclusion, the Euroculture program presents an unparalleled opportunity for me to align my academic pursuits with professional ambitions, contributing to human rights practices in the European Union and global peacebuilding movements. With dedication and belief in my abilities, I am confident that this program will not only shape my professional path but also enhance my life skills as a global citizen with exposure to diverse cultures.
I am grateful for your consideration of my application and eagerly anticipate joining the Euroculture community.
