A thesis/ if-then statement for my essay (the poem "Experience" by Dorothy Livesay)

I would need to write an if-then statement, and theme statement for my essay on the poem "experience" by Dorothy Livesay.
Anyone have any ideas?
What if/then statement can i write for this poem?

Poem:

"For your own good" they said,
And they gave me bread
Bitter and hard to swallow.
My head felt tired after it,
My heart felt hollow.

So I went away on my own road
Tasting all fruits, all breads:
And if some were bitter, others were sweet --
So I learned
How the heart is fed.

Heres a couple possibilities:

If one does not conform to his or her surroundings, then contentness is bound to ensue.
If one learns solely from outside forces, then one will never know what it is to feel content.
If one seeks to feed ideas to a population, then one must deny any free-thinkers.
