Outline why you have selected your chosen three university courses, and explain how this relates to your profession or previous course
My interest in Human Resource Management was first stirred during my undergraduate studies at the Osun State University, Nigeria where my disciplined was Political Science and Internal Relations. I took HRM202 as an elective course which explored the linkages between The State, Human Resources & Industrial Relations. During this time, projects were assigned to students, I tracked documents linked to the course and my interest was stimulated when reading employee and labor relations. I realized during my research that no public or private organization can function adequately without an HR team. This was so much compatible with politics and administration where people are the major focus and instrument of development. The reason some countries, especially in Africa are missing it is because of their backwardness in their HRM operations. I want to have MSc in HRM because of this gap in my country Nigeria and my love for HR.
During the acquisition of my professional experience at Beloxxi industries (a food manufacturing company) ignited my interest in logistics and supply chain which I experience the practicality of HRM in an organization. Then I came to realize that the relationship between Political Sciences and HRM is what is needful for stable and continuous development in any organization or country. For instance, the most suitable standpoint for managers will be developing a better understanding of politics and its effects on human resource results so that its dysfunctional costs can be prevented. In the same line, political actors should acquire HR skills and knowledge for sound decision making and planning required for human and societal development. They key interrelated component is the decisions of HR affect government and vice versa.
In Nigeria Political System that has over 110 million energetic people, endowed with lots of natural resources but lacks efficient human resource is an indication that a political system can only develop on the discretion of the human resource team it has for adequate management. This is a sign that having resources do not imply development but lies in the decision of leaders in-charge. Politics is the authoritative allocation of resources and HRM is a tool necessary for successful administration of the resources. Therefore, in every government institution, they must be an adequate HRM department or at least an HR personnel and in every organization whether public or private, we have what is called organizational politics which is the exclusive purview of interpersonal relations in the work environment.
Human Resource Management has an international reputation that attracts a variety of students because of the total utility in any public or private organization. Acquisition of this degree in the UK I believe will stimulate my plan for the future. Following my Masters, I would like to track my interest by running through the pyramid of my employer organization, then obtain a Ph.D. and investigating with the public and private organization. I also plan to own a consulting firm and publish books that will be of help in public sector HRM practices.
