Discuss a leadership experience you have had in any area of your life - school, work, athletics, family, church, community, etc. How and why did you become a leader in this area? How did this experience influence your goals?

A great leader is one who learns from their success and failure. My experience as the marketing lead of my MIT InvenTeam has taught many valuable lessons. During the course of being a team member of my high school InvenTeam, I have participated and experienced inventions that failed and one that worked. As a leader on the marketing team, I have learned lessons that helped me develop into a more well-rounded individual. Though our team was only consisted of three people; I enjoyed working with my colleagues and had a great success as a team contributing to the marketing aspect of the grand project. The ideas we came up with were not all perfect however I had a vision that by combining those good ideas together allowed us to create one great idea on which we can all agree. I personally dedicated a lot of time on observing and analyzing the techniques in which the marketing professionals come up with and try to incorporate and improve our designs. By brain storming and keep alternating designs help us develop sense of well judgement, perseverance, and patience.

There were moments when we fell like giving up is the only way out. Everything were going in the wrong direction for us, we lost all the files we have been putting our hearts and sweat into. Things were not going as planned however I realized that quitting is declaring your own premature defeat. I am convinced that the only thing that keep me going was the determination and passion that I have. At the end, our banner and booth turned out to be fantastic in my point of view, we have scraped majority of the old design and incorporate with the new beauty interface. Our banners had some of the most elegant calligraphy, the booth was designed so that it immediately grabs by passers' attention. In addition to those, I have also created a prototype website interface to show people what our website would be like if we were to sale the product.

Although success is sweet, I am not content with what I have achieved. I feel like I must strive to exceed my accomplishments and that is how I truly learn, not by satisfying with the result but to go back and perfect it in many ways possible. The lessons that I have taken from experience as a marketing lead will be instrumental in my success both at college as well as in life. Passion is all it takes for one to overcome failures and become great, everything else is secondary. Do not be drown in merits, instead look for holes to plug up and only through those mistake one can greatly learn and progress. I will continue to work hard in life to improve myself as well as learn from others; I strongly feel that no one can create my success for me but me. I am the key to my own vault; I am the writer of my own future.
