Hi.

I want to apply for a scholarship and I have to write a motivation letter. I only have time until tomorrow, and I know I am very late.

I just have a question first. Does a motivation letter for a scholarship mainly have to be centered on why you need the scholarship and why you are the right person for it, or does it have to be more focused on the field you want to study ( history of arts in my case)

Thanks a lot in advance,

Deah.

Depending on the prompt. However, if you talk about a specific field, it would be stronger because then that would also be commitment. Motivation simply on its own isn't so strong.

Can you look at mine? Thanks!!

MOTIVATION LETTER
Dear Sir/Madam,

My name is xxxx, and I am writing this request funding for_______
For a long time I have been interested in studying abroad, on one of the prestigious Universities that the EU countries have to offer. I have been particularly interested in studying the History of Arts. If granted this scholarship, I will be able to acquire the versatality needed to reach my full potential as an art historian, and enrich myslef on cultural exchange. This field of study fully complies with my professional interests, dreams and ambitions. Please let me explain the background of my interest in a few words.

I come from Kosovo, where I grew up and finished school. After the Gymnasium of xxxxx , I also finished one academic year in the University xxxx, where I studied the German language. I have excellent knowledge in the German language and I have the German Language diploma of a C1 level as proof, which is compatible to the academic attainment which is compatible to the academic attainment up to post university studies in the german language.

I followed a few courses and advanced schools for the German language for several years. I also have high knowledge in communication, reading and writing in the English language.

Recently I have started my studies in History, where the hitory of arts and museology are some of the main subjects.
In Kosovo, especially throughout the time that I grew up and finished school, we did not have the chance of studying the History of Arts. Not only because of the difficult political situation followed by different crisis and the war, to the fate of being a refugee that has touched so many people and that has not eluded me. Now after the war, an ambitious academic staff tries to replace the deficiencies in question.

Having in mind that Kosovo is a country in transition with a lack of expertise in the field of Art History, a degree in this subject would enable me to contribute in this field which I consider of significant importance for the prospect of Kosovo.

My desire is that with the experience and opportunities which would be offered to me with the xxxx scholarship, providing me with access to an experienced staff and specialized institutes, libraries and galleries, I am to maintain a compatible European level that my Country needs.

Aside from the limited opportunities, for a long time I have shown interest and willingness to the problematics of the History of Arts and have been remarkable even throughout my school years. I have made several study tours in Europe, such as: France, Greece, Hungary, Switzerland, etc. where I spent my entire time and devotion to the history of arts.

I have received the best possible undergraduate education in Kosovo. Throughout, my scholastic records and achievements have been outstanding. I have consistently ranked in the top 5 % of the students of my class during the one year of studies in the University xxxxxx. Getting elected as the class representative continuously during school and University helped me polish my organizational and interpersonal skills.

The chance that would be offered to me if granted this scholarship would represent a rare possibility and an honor not only for me personally, but also for my country, by contributing with professionally trained experts with European standards. The trust given to me would be compensated with strong ambition and hard work.

I stay with the hope that you will give me this live opportunity to study the History of Arts at a EU university, starting from the academic year 2012.

I am attaching to this Motivation Letter the following supported documents:
- Learning agreement ;
- Confirmation which proves that I am full time student at University of xxxx;
- Grade Certificate;
- Copy of the Index;
- High School Diploma;
- High School Certificates;
- CV and;

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Yours sincerely,
(Name).

I would ad photos or anything that represents work you've done or paintings you've studied. If you can reproduce a painting that may help? I don't know anything about art history, but I think they would be impressed if you can draw a famous painting. Or, how to detect a fake painting from a real one? Or art preservation?

Good luck
