Hi, I plan on applying to PNU later this year.
I'm not very good at writing essays since English is not my native language and this is actually the first draft of the essay.
- Motivations with which you apply for this program
- Educational background
- Significant experiences you have had; persons or events that have had a significant influence on you
- Extracurricular activities such as club activities, community service activities or work experiences
- If applicable, describe awards you have received, publications you have made, or skills you have acquired, etc.
My interest in Korea started at the age of 13 while I was browsing YouTube and stumbled upon a music video of BTS "Dope", which immediately increased my interest for this region and most importantly, the language, and ever since then I've been learning about Korea and its culture. The Global Korea Scholarship will allow me to achieve one of my lifetime goals, one of which is speaking Korean fluently and being an important link between the Korean and Brazilian people.
To better understand the language and culture, I started learning Korean around 2017, using resources available online such as TOPIK questions and using free apps like Duolingo/Memrise. To further sharpen my language skills, I enrolled myself in a course called First Step Korean which gave me a good base and a certificate, and also got into the Online King Sejong Institute course which took around 10 weeks and gave me a certification of Intermediate (3B). During this time, I secured a job with a company that has a subsdiary in Korea, which made me constantly stay in contact with Korea and Korean people, through this job I was able to learn more about the country in general and become a bridge between my company and the Korean subsidiary, helping them in any way I could.
I want to study in South Korea because an undergraduate degree will further solidify everything I've learned by myself in these past years, a chance to become fluent in Korean, and have a better understanding of Korean business. And studying Business Administration at PNU will give me the required qualifications to understand the accelerating changes in the business environment, get a better vision of decision making and how to navigate through the changes that are bound to happen in the future. Such an experience equips me with skills and the necessary knowledge to impact the world, and gives me a deeper understanding of contemporary Korea. With PNU's reputation, applying theories to real-world scenarios and being able to build a career in management/business is more than possible. Building a successful career, in my opinion, starts from the right school, being surrounded by the right people who will help me hone my skills and stay on the right track and also being able to do the same for my colleagues.
Obtaining an Undergraduate from PNU is a chance to develop a greater knowledge of Korea and build an expertise on Korean business/management. I think PNU is the right school for me to attain these skills and put the theories discussed in the classroom into real-world problems. The curriculum at PNU combines the theoretical learning with practical experiences, giving me a comprehensive foundation in business principles and offers an emphasis on international business and the integration of technology within the field, which are attributes that I reckon with. Studying at PNU with GKS scholarship will be a stepping stone towards achieving my career/personal goals and growing my knowledge in relation to Korea, solidifying my language skills and gaining experience in the turbulent business world.
