I'm still choosing the university I want to enroll to.
My love for the arts began when I first saw my father's simple yet captivating sketches and oil portraits of our family and relatives. I vividly remember sitting beside him as he worked on his projects, attempting to sketch alongside him. My early drawings were far from masterpieces, but they were filled with genuine admiration for both him and art itself. My father always encouraged me to express myself artistically, whether through drawing, singing, or dancing. He saw how much joy art brought me, and his influence sparked my lifelong passion for creativity.
As I grew older, this passion shifted towards design, although I did not fully realize it at the time. I found inspiration in shows like Avatar: The Last Airbender, Monster High, and Bratz, spending hours recreating their characters in my style and designing costumes for them. This process nurtured my creativity and solidified my love for visual storytelling.
Drawing became even more significant after my father passed away. It was my way of staying connected to him. My mother, on the other hand, instilled in me a strong drive for education and the determination to seize opportunities despite our financial struggles. She encouraged me to pursue my dream of studying abroad, believing that it would offer me exciting opportunities beyond our circumstances. Despite financial difficulties, I stayed focused on my passions and contributed creatively to school projects. I was the sole participant in my class responsible for preparing posters for every subject, a contribution that earned me a certificate of appreciation from my school.
One year before graduating high school, I encountered an Instagram artist whose unique style inspired me deeply. Her university projects sparked my curiosity, so I asked her, "Where do you get such interesting tasks and projects?" She replied that she was studying design at a university, and this ignited my desire to pursue a similar path. Unfortunately, financial constraints kept me in my small town, where art programs were unavailable. As a result, I pursued a degree in "Two Foreign Languages: English and German," despite my strong interest in design.
This is how my journey towards design also led me to explore languages. I was determined to learn English because I wanted to understand my favorite artists and study in another country. Since formal English courses were financially out of reach, I took it upon myself to research self-study methods, discovering valuable resources along the way. Through dedication, I achieved an intermediate level of English within three years.
At the age of 15, I discovered K-pop and K-dramas, which deepened my connection to South Korea. The country's vibrant art scene and innovative spirit captivated me, and I became fascinated by South Korean culture. Learning English and Korean opened new doors for me, allowing me to explore different cultures and artistic traditions. My decision to apply for the KGSP scholarship at _______University reflects my desire to immerse myself in South Korea's renowned education system and dynamic art scene. South Korea's unique blend of traditional and modern artistic techniques provides the perfect environment for me to grow as an illustrator. I admire artists like Kim Jung Gi, whose ability to create intricate illustrations entirely from memory inspires me to push the boundaries of my own creativity, Yumma for her interesting and adorable designs and more.
Throughout my university studies, my passion for art remained strong. Even though the pandemic disrupted many plans, in 2021, I finally had the opportunity to participate in an exchange program in Poland. This experience broadened my horizons and strengthened my determination to pursue a master's degree in a field aligned with my true passion-design and illustration. Academically, my time in Poland offered a rich exploration of English, cultural perspectives, and critical thinking. The curriculum at the University of Łódź not only deepened my understanding of language but also enhanced my ability to work collaboratively across cultures.
Now, as a university graduate with a degree in English, I reflect on my journey and realize that my true calling lies in design and creativity, not language. While I initially considered graphic design, I found that my heart was not in it. Graphic design focuses on conveying messages through branding, advertising, and promotional materials, which, though fascinating, is not where my passion lies. I discovered that what excites me most is storytelling through art-creating characters and worlds that come to life through illustration.
Studying in South Korea presents not only an opportunity for personal and professional growth but also the chance to contribute to the creative landscape of my home country, Kazakhstan. By bringing back the skills and knowledge I gain, I hope to inspire others and foster a greater appreciation for the arts in Kazakhstan.
In conclusion, I am eager to embark on this transformative journey at ___University, where I can further explore the intersection of traditional and modern illustration techniques. I am confident that this experience will equip me with the tools I need to contribute meaningfully to the evolving world of visual storytelling.
