Hi, can you please help in reviewing my answer to career plan question. I intend to apply for the Chevening 2018-19 scholarship so I have began my home work. I look forward to your corrections, thanks in waiting.
After the end of our ten years of civil war, Sierra Leone have been creeping to rebuild its health system and concurrently battling with emerging and reemerging diseases. The 2014 deadly Ebola virus disease outbreak unravels the weakness of our health sector and showcasing that, Sierra Leone is in need for well-trained and qualified local scientists to conduct scientific research on the front line to help build a resilient health system.
My immediate plans upon returning to Sierra Leone after the successful completion of my proposed Masters studies includes; utilizing my new skills in the interest of my nation by kick starting a modern laboratory base research on diseases most affecting our country through improve laboratory diagnosis and disease surveillance, and cascading this new knowledge to other laboratory scientists in-country. I am strongly convinced that, the knowledge and experience I would gain doing a master's degree in the United Kingdom would make me a highly motivated individual with the sufficient knowledge and skills to become a better Laboratory research scientist and hence set me apart from my colleagues.
My career objectives include but not limited to; Understanding the genome of our life threaten pathogens like Ebola Virus, Lassa Virus, Plasmodium falciparum, S. typhi, yellow fever etc. and how the host immunity respond to their infection. My aspiration is to see my country on a better footing to hunt these pathogens and to combat any future outbreak.
Within the next couple of years after my Master's degree, i aim to enter into graduate school complete my PhD and in the future develop my own research laboratory and become the principal investigator to answer scientific question on diseases in Sierra Leone. This is because I believe it is very important for Sierra Leone to have well trained and qualify Sierra Leonean scientists conducting research on infectious disease in our own soil, so that we can develop effective therapeutics and vaccines for the diseases most affecting us. I am sure that with this, I will be able to make huge contribution to strengthen the health system in Sierra Leone as this area of development is very key for my country to build a robust health system and it is my aspiration to further these goals.
If I am granted this scholarship i promise to give in return as much as i can to strengthen the health care system by and undertake several laboratory research projects on hidden or unknown pathogens within and out of Sierra Leone.
