Hey, I want to apply for the 2025 CLMC Erasmun program and have written the following PS. I would appreciate your feedback and assistance for improvements. Thank you in advance!
I completed my Bachelor's in English Linguistics and Literature in August 2024. During my studies, I analyzed various literature periods and language learners' linguistic development phases. Some of my major courses, such as Teaching English as a Foreign Language, Literary Theory and Criticism, and Soci-Psycho Linguistics, enabled me to analyze various forms of literature to understand the social, psychological, and cultural perspectives and identify how literature affects learning in students. Going through the CLMC course, I realized how this opportunity could help me broaden my understanding of cultural and psychological perspectives internationally and find innovative solutions for refining the education system worldwide.
As an undergraduate student, I participated in several voluntary and part-time teaching experiences in local schools. Through these endeavors, I observed how children of various ages understand and perceive literary and academic writings. Moreover, I applied a multimodal teaching method in different grade levels, using children's films such as "The Ice Age" and "Tare Zameen Par" to help students improve their language skills. This gave me insights into how children's education can be enhanced using both written and visual literary forms.
However, I soon discovered that children's understanding of texts and other literary forms differs not only from adults but also within age groups depending on a person's familial, social, and cultural background. I started working with differently abled youngsters and children to develop an inclusive understanding of children's literature. Yet, my research pursuits were limited by the lack of opportunities. The CLMC program, in this regard, is highly suited for me with its aim to deepen students' knowledge of the expanding intersection of literature studies, media studies, childhood studies, and education within an international perspective.
Along with my teaching experiences, I also worked as the President of the KIU Literary Society, a literary body that aimed to further literary understanding in university students. During my tenure, I not only edited and wrote digital content for the society's website but also came up with creative program ideas. We arranged several stage plays, where I edited scripts and directed the actors. While supervising the team, I ensured the seamless operation of the programs by assigning specific duties to society members and other volunteers. Not only that, as part of the KIU Literary Society, I also organized several book reviews, both as an organizer and a speaker. These co-curricular activities furthered my understanding of various forms of literature in young adults.
I also participated in residential leadership camps and workshops such as "5 Simple Steps To Your First Documentary Clip" by the USC School of Cinematic Arts and American Film Showcase, Pakistan. As part of my post-camp activities, I organized community seminars and workshops for youth and school-going children. Through these activities, I realized my commitment to supporting societal and social development. I also supported my peers and colleagues whenever required, creating a collaborative and optimistic learning environment. This helped me develop a pluralistic approach to life, where I can empathize with others' opinions even if they differ from my own.
I started my professional journey as a content writer at a local tech company during my college studies. While working in the company, I had to communicate with international clients for business development. During this time, I also started creating children's literature, including short stories with simple morals and engaging illustrations. Often, I worked on multipath stories, where youngsters could create different stories by making choices at various points.
After completing my BS degree, I decided to move to the capital city of Pakistan. This was a hard decision as I was a young graduate who had lived in her hometown till now. Yet, I believe that traveling is one of the most practical ways of polishing your skills and learning new things. Currently, I am a content and scriptwriter for a software company, dealing with the written and visual aspects of stories. Along with this, I had the opportunity to interact with people from diverse backgrounds and social circles, helping me polish my adaptability, compassion, and acceptance skills.
Based on my undergraduate project, I aim to further my research about the role of generative AI in language learning and literature writing. Doing so will contribute to a more inclusive learning environment based on multimodal study material for communities worldwide. If given the opportunity, I will further the EU values to the best of my capabilities.
