Outline the details of your future aspirations and how your Monash degree will help you achieve your vision. *
You can explain how previous leadership roles or community activities have informed this vision. This statement should not focus on your academic achievements or the financial benefit of the scholarship. Your statement must not exceed 500 words. You may be required to provide supporting evidence.
My name is Yedija Messa and I'm a self-taught Data Science enthusiast. I have been working with data analytics for the last 4 years and just started my own Data Science media platform, called Kagum Data, publishing information regarding Data Science mainly on Instagram and LinkedIn, soon to be expanded. During those years I have been learning a lot from massive open-online courses, campus and company's projects, as well as doing several competitions to keep my brain sharp. As a daily data scientist working for one of the biggest banks in ASEAN, it has already been my daily diet to face the difficulties of collecting data, exploring into the deepest, and implementing the best method to bring output to the decision maker.
Public opinion has gone wild and created polarizations, influencing government especially public policy creators to think multipically for a best decision. It is crucial since it will drive and rule the society. As Clive Humbe shouted "Data is the new oil!", Data Science indeed holds the main role in enabling processes to be more fair, objective, and transparent to the society and collective purposes of human beings. Opportunities like congestion reduction, hyper personalized retail marketing systems, monitors and evaluators in manufacturing industries, can lead to possibilities beyond human knowledge and imagination. These ideas represent my vision. I would really love to see a world full-facilitated by technology, supporting equality and justice as well as fulfilling aspirations which will be personalized by each human's dreams.
Since Data Science and Machine Learning are still few and hard to implement, we need a good strategy to turn our strength into opportunity. Transfer learning is one of the top methods in machine learning. Its principles are often well-applied in education and training, as seen that many companies and universities use the opportunity to learn from other parties. However, most of the teaching of Data Science and its application are only happening in big cities (especially Java Island). For me, every region needs it to disrupt inequality and other problems as well. Therefore, learning in Monash University is the best way for me to learn from Data Science and AI experts, where the researchers have published more than 200 projects per year. Furthermore, Monash University provides courses from Malicious AI to Data in Society and Data Processing for Big Data, which are rare topics but essential for my career as well as to be applied in Indonesia. I would also like to learn the Bioinformatics subjects from the additional units, since the topic is the key to solving crucial health and genetics problems, yet has not been discussed well in Indonesia.
I firmly believe that learning in Monash University will be a good fit to achieve my vision. Besides strengthening my academic credentials as a data scientist, connecting with colleagues, lecturers, and professionals will be beneficial for me to build a team in popularizing Artificial Intelligence and make it accessible everywhere. Supported by my privileges, one of which is networks to rural areas, as an exceptional ambassador of Monash University, I will use the honor to start solving problems by enabling data science applications in regions.
