Chevening is looking for individuals with strong relationship-building skills, who will change with the Chevening community and influence and lead others in their chosen profession. Please explain how you build and maintain relationships in a professional capacity using clear examples of how you currently do this, and outline how you hope to use these skills in the future.
Relationship-building in a professional capacity is important for the growth and development of individual capability and productivity in any aspect they find themselves.
I have influenced my university colleagues positively. My second year was though for many of them. I decided to create a group of study sessions where I treated every topic with much details, we elaborated on their problems that needed tackling and explained effectively about our progress. This helped majority of them. The level of their performance has increased till graduation. With my partners in school, this has brought about trust, continous relationship and a recognition from them regarding their academic life and development.
A year ago, I started a job as a voluntary official in a private laboratory and consultancy service. I worked with various laboratory scientists, pharmacists and social service providers. Samples were collected from patients to be analysed. As I was tasked to be a reporter to the officials, I ensured I had a heart to heart response from them on what issues made them develop their symptoms and how I can easily help them with further explanation on how to prevent future occurrence.
My colleagues had issues on how reports should be submitted and issued to patients and also go to the board after monthly review. I provided them with satisfactory details on how to present the results of each diagnosis to the patients in a more positive approach. I showed them how reviews can be done by comparing the success of the previous lab works to the recent ones, closing a gap so important.
During my final year, I made contributions to the departmental political development and this made me build interactions with some of my lecturers that people were skeptical about, bringing about a resolution to the case that started a certain movement. I sat with them, discussed and communicated on how I can be relevant to it's resolution. This brought about an indicator of how others can be interactive and understanding with these lecturers after they've been skeptical about them.
