Hi, please review my SOP below. Thank you.
stating the reason(s) for the proposed study, its relevance to the industry and its expected impact on national development.
Today, organizations around the world are plagued by cyberattacks that are increasingly sophisticated, persistent, and which can cause major financial loss, operational disruption, and reputational damage to companies, this includes oil & gas companies that manage a wide array of assets, including infrastructures, applications, managed and unmanaged endpoints, mobile devices and cloud services, all of which are inter-connected and can be attacked.
Oil and gas companies rely heavily on a complex network of interconnected systems to gather real-time data on field operations, analyse data, automate tasks, improve maintenance and increase fleet visibility. Unfortunately, in many cases, the digitalization initiatives across the oil and gas industry have outpaced the deployment of commensurate cybersecurity safeguards, this is evident in the recent cyberattacks on various oil and gas infrastructures globally.
As a recent graduate of Electrical and electronics engineering, I have developed a passion and interest in network and information security. My desire is fueled in part by the many cyberattacks against oil and gas companies in the last few years, and the need to stop them. I am also excited at the amazing opportunity to work on some of the most exciting technologies in the field of cybersecurity such as artificial intelligence and network automation.
I have obtained Cisco Certified Network Certification (CCNA) certification and CompTIA security+ certification through in-depth self-study, and also completed three intensive training programs that covered the fundamentals of networking and security, threats and vulnerability, incidence response, cybersecurity policy, architecture and design of networks to enhance resilience and reliability. Through these experiences, I have developed knowledge and understanding about how organizations can better protect the confidentiality of data, preserve the integrity of data and restrict the availability of data to authorized users.
I am applying for a Master's degree in Cybersecurity with a research interest in network and information security. I believe this program will allow me to expand my existing knowledge of network and information security, and provide the innovative skills and expertise required to manage complex cybersecurity projects in the oil & gas industry. Completing the program would afford me the opportunity to advance my career and contribute towards the security and development of the oil and gas sector in Nigeria.
In terms of national development, the implementation of a robust National Cybersecurity program will provide a policy, legal and regulatory framework for businesses and organisations including oil and gas companies. These policies together with best practices within the public and private sectors will guide organisations in creating safe, secure and resilient cyberspace. The benefits of this include maintaining trust and confidence with internal and external stakeholders, preserving integrity and reputation, ensuring ethics and accountability, protecting lives and property and creating job opportunities for Nigerians.
In conclusion, with the rise of cyber threats and attacks on oil and gas infrastructures, earning a Master Degree in Cybersecurity will equip me with the knowledge, skills and expertise required to better protect companies against threat actors.
