"Animal lovers are a special breed of humans, generous of spirit, full of empathy, perhaps a little prone to sentimentality and hearts as big as a cloudless sky." John Grogan

For as long as I can remember I have loved animals. However I didn't exactly want to become a veterinarian at first. Like any child I changed my mind every week to another career. "I want to be a doctor, an engineer, archaeologist, a scientist, ect..." However this all changed one day, a day that has greatly impacted my life. This event in my life has effected who I am today and will affect the veterinarian I someday wish to become.

It has been about 9 year's sense the death of my dog Spike. It still brings pain to my heart every time I think about it. Spike taught me some of the greatest lesions in life and remains still till this day my single most inspiring figure.

I haven't exactly had the easiest life. I wasn't born into a stable loving household. My parents have truly never accepted who I am. I wasn't pretty enough, smart enough, I wasn't the best dancer, or singer, I wasn't the best anything. They continuously resulted to mental and physical abuse to push me to their impossible standards. After a while it sunk into me. I called myself useless and hated everything about myself. I wasn't perfect.

I had no one to turn to until the day I met Spike. Spike wasn't the perfect dog. He had been abused by his previous owners who left him will scares all over his body and. I felt sorry for him and take him home. However, ironically I needed him more than he needed me.

Spike showed me how special I was something my parents and I had refused to see. I could be having the crappiest day, but the minute I got home there he'll be. He will come up to me all excited, wanting to play, making me feel needed. See no matter what I did, how badly I screwed up, he didn't care. He only saw what was inside.

Spike however suffered from a medical condition known as Epilepsy, a disorder that causes repeated seizers. Spike because of his former owners he will suffer for the rest of his life. Can you image watching your love one suffer and slowly die knowing that something as simple as a small pill can help stop it. My parents were unwilling to pay the high vet bills and highly priced medicine for his condition. In their eyes, he was not worth a penny of their time. I did what I had to do for Spike and I did it alone. He suffered for three long years, until my parents decided it was enough and decided to put him down.

From that point on I know I wanted to be a Vet. I didn't want to stand by again and watch an innocent animal suffer. They are so innocent and yet people treat them like dirt. Why is our existence any more valuable?

Spike taught me I'm perfect the way I am and to never let anyone make me think otherwise. He taught me to reach for my dreams and not to let any obstacle in my way. "How many people can make you fell rare and pure and special? How many people can make you fell extraordinary?"Animals don't judge, or look for flaws; they take you for who you are.

I need some help with the grammer. Can anyone help
