Write an essay in which you tell us about someone who has made an impact on your life and explain how and why this person is important to you.
As I shuffle through familiar faces and ponder those who have greatly impacted
me, there is truly one individual who has made their mark in my life. Although
my family has supported my every financial need, my friend and colleague,
Ashley Torres, has taught me numerous lessons about life and friendship. She
is a beautiful individual with a great soul who has endured a great variety of
pitfalls and hardships; nonetheless, she is a warrior with a servant's heart in
my eyes.
Ashley is one of those light-hearted and driven young ladies who unfortunately
saw her life crumble before her eyes. She maintained her status as a top
student within our high school senior class; however, she lost her mother just
a few short years ago. When I first met her, she seemed like a happy-go-lucky
kind of person who loved all of her friends and was full of laughter. She
seemed unbreakable and to be honest, I would have never guessed that she was
overcoming so many obstacles. One day, we were fooling around, and she made a
light-hearted comment, and I simply laughed and responded with a statement to
the effect of "your mom". I meant no malice or ill-will; however, I quickly
witnessed her transform into a timid and saddened individual. At that time, I
had no knowledge of her mother's passing and within minutes, she simply "blew
it off." I no longer thought anything of it, but later on that day, she
personally pulled me aside and explained what was taking place in her life. I
felt horribly ashamed for being insensitive. I apologized and offered to be
there if she ever needed me.
Through all the pain and misfortune though, Ashley had been so strong which was
certainly something that I could never fathom overcoming myself; however, she
showed her resilience for she mentioned that no matter what life brings, that
we could surely overcome. This was definite motivation for me. I have been
very fortunate to have a very close family and especially my Mom for always
being there for me.
