All critiques are welcome

"Atithi Devo Bhava" - is a saying in Sanskrit which means that guest is like God. For us Indians this is not just a saying, but is a principle to live by. We are taught to pamper our guests and treat them with the utmost care. No host should rest until the guest is fully satisfied and they are served the best food in the best manner. I have grown up surrounded by these values, so hospitality runs in my blood.

Ever since I was a little girl I have loved food. Not just eating good food, but cooking, experimenting and creating new kinds of dishes and serving them to family and friends. From helping my grandmother make little breads as a kid, to cooking whole meals and birthday cakes for my friends, my passion for cooking has grown by leaps and bounds. Food excites me, it makes me happy. I love to smell the scents that spread around my house as a delicious chicken curry simmers on the pot. I spend hours watching cookery channels and scour the internet for recipes to create something challenging, yet delicious. India has a very diverse food culture that varies and changes from one city to another. As my father was in the army, I have lived and travelled to almost all regions in India and have seen the wonders that get created in Indian kitchens! The different spices, breads, curries, pickles, fruits, vegetables, street foods and rich sweets can even make a full stomach want more. I feel fortunate to have experienced the tastes of diversity.

I live in Delhi, the capital of India, which is the melting point of cultures from all over the world. Thanks to being in Delhi, I have had the splendid opportunity to explore the culinary delights of Middle east, Far east, Mediterranean and the South and North America. I can even make churros at home and differentiate between sushi and sashimi.

I am very proficient in communicating with people and can connect well with different types of people. Psychology, my favourite subject has taught me to understand how people behave, how to assess their needs and what keeps them happy.

I have personally experienced being a guest in a range of hotels, from top class to the thrifty ones and I have keenly observed and realized how much of an effort it takes to provide someone with the best services. I have learnt a lot through these experiences. I have realised that the human touch and warmth is what differentiated the best from the ordinary.

I feel that my passion for food and service along with my upbringing makes me ideal for The Cornell School of Hotel Administration. It is a pioneer institution that can provide me the best education and experiences required to excel in this field. I hope to bring glory to this institution when I start my own restaurant someday and provide exquisite delicacies to the heart and soul of my guests.
