THE UNIVERSITY FIELD OF BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING
The world we live right now is a fast-paced age with skyrocketing costs of college education. I personally think that pursuing a college education at such a condition is itself a challenging task. Many teenagers in this time go to school and college and whenever we ask them about the reasons for pursuing their college education they simply answer you saying they want to get a good job meaning; good pay with bonuses and yearly paid vacations. But this is not what I think about pursuing a college education. I think a person should have a passion or a desire to pursue a specific career path. Studying at a good university so that you can get good grades and finally after graduation get a good job is what most of us think. But I believe that good education cannot only bring good paid jobs but also self-confidence, a fair and caring leadership and self-esteem.
I think that college education is the most lucrative form of education as it is usually depends on the student. This education is beneficial only if the student is ready to undertake the risks of giving up time for his family members who are far away from him as well as short term financial crisis. As a child and a teenager, I have been through school and high school classes. During those years at school, I only thought is it because a college education can find a better job and ensure for a better life? Or is the whole concept of getting college education a fraud or scam to manipulate individuals in feeling inferior without it? As soon as I reached the matured age of 16, I was starting to realize that I would give my time studying living organisms. I started to think that I would study Biological Science majoring in Biomedical Engineering/Molecular Biology and the reasons behind taking such a huge step were more primitive but with proper guide I am and will be able to mature myself and be a successful researcher.
As I was at the mere age of 15, I was preparing for my mid-term exams for grade 9. I was much excited to be out of the school within a year and join college education just as our seniors. But I was an undecided major student who lacked self-motivation and value of time. I was just excited as my friends to go to a college just for fun and sake of our parents. As my final exams were approaching, one day my parents got a call from the police station. All of my family members rushed to the police station and they took us to the hospital. We did not know what was happening. Finally the cops took us to the emergency room and we saw my aunt, on one of the bed, crying with pain. I did not exactly know what was happening. My mom and dad were crying at that moment. Later I found out that my aunt had been raped by some hooligans and the cops did not have concrete proofs with them to whack the criminals with rape charges. At that time, DNA profiling was not available back in my country and still almost unavailable in most major cities in XX. Then, for the first time in my life, I saw my parents crying and I was unable to do anything.
Since that time, I decided that I had an objective, an objective that always haunted me. That haunted me to bring such criminals behind bars and Biomedical engineering was the only field I could trust. As my decision was made, I started giving my time for studies and my parents were happy for me as I was getting good grades and I almost ranked amongst top 10% of the class. I was always attentive and focused in the class. My teachers were almost surprised to see my grades getting perfect in every test but were saddened at the news of my aunt. After finishing XXX exams with flying colors, I got admitted to one of the best college in the city. My instructors were much surprised with my concern towards each and every subject they were teaching. I was an exemplary student among my instructors and I always excelled during my exams. My instructors always expected me to ask questions during classes and because of my outstanding performance, I was chosen to be College President for 2 years in college.
Not only I had academic achievements, I also participated in extra-curricular activities. I was the member of Lion's Club of XXXXX and volunteered during our major festivals XXXXX. I also helped many times during humanitarian works such as Blood Donation programs organized by Red Cross Society. I was also chosen as a Captain for our college XX team and reached the team to the finals. After my grade 12 finals, I searched for better college to study Biotechnology and got admitted at XXXX for a semester. But XX has developed a lot of chaotic situations and still violence, crimes and strikes are common in major cities. I tried my best to overcome all these minor problems because I was taking a longer stride of majoring in Biotechnology and I had a dream of being a good researcher. But there were no options except going abroad and getting to know sophisticated laboratories and equipments. So, I came to XX and joined XXXX majoring in Biotechnology. My instructor XXX was greatly surprised by our abilities to handle lab works and attention in almost all the classes. During my XX years at college, I have gained an overall GPA of 4.00 and I have been a President's Honor Roll every semester. Because of my academic achievements, I have been inducted as a member of Phi Theta Kappa.
