Duke Supplement prompt- "If you are applying to the Pratt School of Engineering, please discuss why you want to study engineering and why you would like to study at Duke." Any adjustments/fixtures would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance !!
I have always been interested in computers. My interest came around several years ago when I picked up a computer handbook my mother bought home one day. At the time I didn't understand the more difficult terms, but the basic things came naturally to me. Shortly afterwards, I began programming basic computer languages on my computer that would translate into a 2D multiplayer game for people. From that moment I knew that I wanted to develop and further my computer language even more. When I think about the future and what I want to do in college, I see myself mastering computer languages. Furthermore I see myself working for IBM or Microsoft developing these programs. I think of how I will make a living off of doing something I am passionate about, and that all begins with studying at Duke.
Besides the fact that Duke has a strong engineering program, I want to study engineering because I believe my ideas are good enough to change the industry as we know it today. The opportunities at Duke seem endless, but I am eager to explore my internship opportunities. Through further research, I discovered many students get internships with Google, but my goal is to work with IBM. I plan to work my hardest to obtain this opportunity, and my main objective will be to get in touch with the career center early on. I will get in contact with an agent as soon as possible. This all begins with being a part of the Duke community though. I would have many opportunities, and doing this will strengthen my experience in the business world.
Duke University is an excellent fit for me. Not only because of the top notch engineering, but because I will have an opportunity to be exposed to my career choice with the various amount of career services offered to undergraduates. I will be able to develop my interests in and out of the Duke community. The curriculum for a freshman undergrad will give me a strong impression of how far I will have to go to become a respected person in my field of study. From the excellent computer engineering program to the abundant amount of career opportunities I will have, I believe Duke is the perfect place for me to further myself.
