I am a mature student attempting the English Comp Clep w essays
Not as easy as I thought!
This took me 40 min:
How have Computers affected the way we work now compared to 100 years ago?
Not since the Industrial Revolution has one invention affected the world in the way the invention of the computer has.
ï
Most of the changes brought by the invention of the computer have been positive.ï In the area of travel, companies who require a face-to-face meeting can now save money and time by videoconferencing.ï Improved accuracy in the financial and manufacturing industries has helped business carry out their transactions seamlessly with lightening speed.
ï
Some of the changes computers bring to the workplace are not as positive.ï Desktop Publishing is one industry that has transformed from a specialty service to a task that anyone can perform with a computer, publishing software and a printer.
ï
No area of business has been affected more by the invention of the computer than staffing and outsourcing.ï Now a worker doesn't have to live in NE to provide technical support to a corporation in Omaha.ï The employee can live in India and view the same screen, via the internet, and perform the same service at a much lower cost to the company than an American employee.ï This fact has put many US employees out of work.ï
ï
So although computers have changed the way we work now compared to 100 years ago, it is not always for the best for all workers.
