E.E Cummings once said that "It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are." In the past few months I have begun to really understand how important it is to think for yourself and follow your passions. College life has given me the time and space to initiate the search for what I really want to become. However, during my time at CUNY Baruch, a business oriented college, I have decided that I am in need of a more diverse and broadly intellectual curriculum in contrast to a vocational based education. Studying at Geneseo would also give me the opportunity to be educated with students that are similar to me, and provide me with key connections and relationships that I will value for years to come.
With such a variety of liberal arts classes at Geneseo, I hope to expand my knowledge on a variety of subjects and develop a different outlook on life. With a plethora of choice in classes at Geneseo, I wish to find a career niche for myself in which I will excel and be content. During my time at Geneseo, I hope to delve out of my comfort zone and meet new people, join different clubs, and participate in differents types of activities; all of which will hopefully mould me into a more rounded, worldly, individual.
One thing that I never expect in life is to be given something without giving something back in return. I believe that it would be my responsibility to give something back to the Geneseo community after being given the opportunity to study there. I believe that every individual has their own unique qualities that can benefit those around them. I do not think I am an exception to my own theory and believe that I too, have particular characteristics and abilities that would enrich the Geneseo community. One particular trait that I am proud to have is the will to never quit something until I have exhausted all other options. Whether it be playing soccer from a young age all the way to playing at the NCAA Division III level at Baruch, or mastering the violin and piano, I believe that perseverance has a lot to do with solving life's problems. Once at Geneseo I would stay steadfast in being a hard worker and work towards other students success, as well as my own. Another valuable trait that I believe I possess is the ability to work efficiently in a team. Throughout my life I have constantly worked or played in teams, and I consider myself to always aid and lead my teams to success. I think this ability will benefit the Geneseo community as I can help the community by working with students in enriching the community experience as a whole.
I like the opening quote of your essay, and I think you should work it through your entire essay. How will Genesco help you gain that courage to become who you really are? I would also recommend more details and specifics in the "Why Genesco" part.
