The Determined Businessman
There are many to name those that have influenced and impacted me to who I am today. However, I am going to mention one special person amongst them. That somebody taught me the many lessons and wise decisions that guided me to understand the difference between right and wrong. With what he experienced and what he has done, it inspires me to become a more determined and confident individual and leader. He is very close to me and without him it would be pretty difficult to experience the problems in life without some fun which includes waiting in those long winding roads in the DPS offices playing Solitaire or maybe even the excessive, abrupt usage of the brakes during teen driving practice. He is my dad and I admire how well he has cope with past conflicts and the fact that he follows his dreams very determinedly and firmly.
During my dad's childhood, he went through a rough time considering he was semi-Vietnamese and semi-American. He lived in Vietnam at the time and experienced occasional remarks about his ethnicity. He would often get recalled as a Westerner or foreigner. When he was around the age of fifteen he started working long hard hours to raise some money to bring home for his family. He would harvest the rice around the farm and take care of the cattle. Through all that harassment and hard work, it pushed him to become a better person and strive to achieve greater than what he had to deal with. He would occasionally win ping pong contests after school but aside from that, that kind of commitment and determination is very inspiring. It seems nowadays I may sometimes be forgetful about his diligent adolescence but I try my best to make my parents proud. He always reminds us to try our best and to not to give up on our dreams.
Because of his previous struggles, he is now a great father, strong leader, and an admiring businessman. Whenever we see him go home from work, he manages to be able to complete all his college work. There were times when his college work came out of control but we all managed to cope with it decently. However, it is awe-inspiring to see the enormous amount of patience and focus he has while he attempts to finish his homework. That kind of commitment urged me to always manage to finish my homework no matter how much there is to be done. The motivation acquired has thrived throughout the recent school years and become the main reason why most of my homework is completed before due date. He is also enthusiastic about education and advocates the idea that perseverance and hard work does pay off in the end.
In retrospect, he had a tremendous goal in mind when he was in Vietnam. He wanted to help others and obtain a decent amount of respect from others. His idea was to become a terrific, ambitious doctor that people would recognize and admire. He was so strong on this mission that he taught himself many things including Math and English enduring attentive studies. Since he got married and managed to receive an eldest daughter, a pair of twin sons, and an adorable youngest daughter, his goal came to a halt. My dad's inability to become the respected medical doctor that he intended allowed me to persevere and attempt to continue that forsaken dream or experience a better lifestyle than my father's youth. I aim to improve on my lack of focus and become a more passionate, determined individual.
To sum up, the various moments where my dad had to deal with situational problems has influenced me to raise more morale and hope to improve my views on education. He has shown me that perseverance is the way to succeed in life no matter what happens. In fact, the constant roadblocks in his path made me realize that they are just temporary and are not impossible to cope with. Whether it is struggling with homework or dealing with teenage problems, there will be a solution to it all. Overall, his experiences have impacted my life drastically and it would be pretty difficult to go through life without him.
High School Dilemmas
One important event in a teenager's life is the monumental experience discovered in high school. The moment one person steps into high school he or she will find out that school has a lot of academic, social, and physical opportunities. They specifically consist of honor societies, volunteer organizations, sporting events, miscellaneous clubs, and etc. Yet, high school has other numerous priorities before attempting to join or commit oneself to these activities. That person will have to determine whether or not the he or she can withstand the existence of stress, maintain a decent report card, and regulate some free time for leisure throughout the years.
During the time I began my freshman year, I experienced troubling situations which mainly involved stress. It was the first time I understood that high school was not going to be easier than my previous academic encounters. After the few weeks had gone by, I realized that the quantity of the homework was overwhelming to deal with. I struggled and managed to pull a decent amount of good grades but it was very difficult for me to try to improve my working habits. What I normally did after school would be to go home and start my homework at random times. It was pretty terrible to do because I would sometimes do it and realized that it was slightly late. Without any clue of how enormous the workload was I would complain consistently at my parents. It was unhealthy and I managed to stop but it made understand that I was stressing out a lot that I couldn't concentrate for an hour before I recognized I was complaining.
After freshman year, sophomore came around and it was slightly easier than the previous year because I grasped how to deal with the stress but not focusing was the problem. I had PreAP English II at the time and throughout the year there were a lot of reading question packets. They were very tedious to overcome but occasionally, I invited my friend over to try to finish together. At the time it sounded like a great idea but what I didn't know was how distracting it was to have him over than attempting the packet myself. We would fool around and talk about things other than the packet. Eventually, we got some work done but in time our plans of finishing it in two hours transferred into four or five hours. I discovered how unproductive we became more planned out and chose someone to be the one to make ourselves on task. I learned that when I do want to make a study group in the future, it has to involve more focus and a location with no distractions.
As junior year was approaching, I found myself more paranoid of what this year will become. I heard it was going to be more difficult than any other high school year with all the AP exams and SATs and ACTs. The teachers were very notable about their knowledge in the subject and about the AP tests. They also allowed the classes to purchase AP exam guides to help us gain a higher grade point. Even so, my dad assigned some decent-sounding SAT and ACT classes that would aid the year. It sounded satisfying to utilize but when the year came, I had a tough schedule with the SAT and ACT classes, homework, leisure time, and study sessions. It was exhausting trying to go to SAT classes on Wednesday and Saturday for three hours trying to maintain some time for homework. It made me sleep late sometimes. It was a challenging moment for me in high school but I pulled through. What I do want from this experience is to go back and try to fix my faulty habits and apply myself even harder.
Overall, high school was an exciting but an interesting experience. It has taught me that complaining over problems will not make situations any better than it already was. It only causes more problems that affect other people as well. Focusing on priorities is another lesson I've learned. No matter what seems rather amusing than work, the job has to get done before anything else. Last but not least is the important acknowledgement of preparation. Whether the task appears easy or difficult, putting forth effort is the key to finishing it. I've learned enormously from various situations but enduring high school is one of the most enlightening experiences discovered in life
