i may be the only one who has no idea about any professors that i want to study under
i was just wondering how other people applying to upenn came up with their ideas about their professors
It helps to know what you want to do for undergrad. Then you can find that undergrad department, look through their faculty directory, and find a professor that teaches something you're partcularly interested in. Like, for my essay, I picked a professor who researches Personality Psychology and Personality Theory, because I want to study that realm of psychology. Something like that.
but how did you know anything about the professor apart from just what they taught
Most professors have pages. When you find them in the faculty directory there will be links to their pages. Sometimes it's a simple university provided thing with varying amounts of info, and sometimes they have their own pages entirely.
ok cool i found it
thanks
penn professor short answer
Penn offers its undergraduates an eminent faculty and a wealth of research opportunities. Use the space below to name a Penn professor with whom you would like to study or conduct research and explain why. (1000 characters)
I have always had a passion for mathematics and I had recently gained one for physics. With my discovery of engineering I had found a way to combine them and use them in a productive way. The next step was to figure how exactly to use engineering to make a difference.
...
try to slice a few superlatives and dont sound too obsessive
otherwise it was good. good specific jawn
what is a jawn??
hahaha
good specific references.
jawn can mean anything in this sense jawn=entire paragraph
but I liked the specifics
I think this is specific enough
Hey, I tried to help you out here:
Here's my revised version of your response. It's 3 in the morning, and I'm very tired, so, I'm really sorry if you don't like it.
Mathematics has always intrigued me, but I've recently cultivated a passion for phsyics as well. Fortunately, the field of engineering has permitted me to combine both subjects in a productive, dynamic way. But, how could I utilize the vast field of engineering in a distinctive way? Professor Vijay Kumar's Multiple Autonomous Robot Systems (MARS) project answered just that. Dr. Kumar's innovative, cutting-edge research attempts to explore the vast universe, and understand its roots. Merely the thought of witnessing this project, and potentially becoming a part of it amazes me.
To be one of the pioneers on such ground breaking research demonstrates Dr. Kumar's true genius. I can not wait to experience his class and to see his unique intellect come through in his teaching. The boundless knowledge he can equip me with is unimaginable, yet I am curious to find out. If my high school physics teacher inspired my current passion for engineering, I can not wait to see what a world-renowned Penn professor can do.
It was okay, and I liked the last sentence. It seemed kind of listlike with all the "I"s you put in. Also, you may want to be a little bit more specific with what class of the professor you are actually speaking of.
I like Amy's edit a lot better. I would use that.
