Expectations of course:
What do you expect from this course?
What do you expect from the learning environment?
What do you expect from the professor?
In modern days, education is important for everyone all over the world. I believe that education is just not going to school only. Education is anything you learn every day in your life. I believe that to gain a good education we have to know certain learning philosophies and environments and also abide by them. Therefore, the paper will discuss the learning philosophies in academic education.
In a good learning environment, there must be respect, responsibility, calm, safety & freedom, curiosity, energy, cooperation, encouragement, acceptance, honesty, and leadership. There must be respect between oneself, between professors & students, and between students. There must be also respect to the principles of education. Students have to be responsible to attend classes and do their homework, studies, and duties of school or university. In addition, they have to be responsible to pay attention in class and never depend on someone else. Also, the professors have to be responsible to deliver the message of the idea they're explaining. They are responsible to help students whenever students need them. They are responsible to control students when needed. The atmosphere in class has to be calm. There should be no whispering or talking inside the classroom, so everyone can hear each other and is able to get the main idea of the material explained.
In class, there should be safety. This means that there should be no one afraid to speak up and participate whether to share ideas, or to say his/her opinion. Students should be always curious, energetic, and eager to know more, pay more attention to the course, and participate in class. There should be a team work between students themselves and students & professors. Helping one another is a good step to encourage everyone to achieve their goals in learning. Accepting everyone's idea and opinion is important. Everyone has a different point of view, and everyone can learn from it. Honesty is needed between everyone. Professors are totally honest and having conscience toward their students. They are building a generation that will be able to face life's hardships. Now all these learning philosophies can be given and described as leadership characteristics.
There are different ways students reach and approach learning. We, students, should be responsible for all duties for school. We have to do what they are asked for. We have to study, read, participate, and share ideas & opinions. In addition to our duties, there are expectations of a course. We expect from a course to be interesting. According to the Sociology course, we expect to know how to deal & know about people and how people interact with each other. We expect to know about different societies and how people interact with them. Moreover, we expect to learn different and new things about societies & people. We, students, expect a quiet, safe, and respectful, etc. learning environment. We expect that a professor should be available at class times & easily to be reachable when we need him/her. We expect the professor to make the course easy and interesting to them. We expect his/her cooperation, advices and guidance. Professor is expected to be able of sending the message or idea of the course clearly. We expect also respectfulness from professors.
Some students add many things to the learning environment. I will add some lessons to the learning environment through experiences, opinions, and sharing ideas. When we, students, share our experiences, thoughts, and opinions, we learn from each other. We learn from each other's mistakes too. Also, what I have learned all these entire years in school, I can help others with. This is what I meant when I said learning is just not in school & books only. Education is through sharing information from each other.
We, students, want to achieve many different things in learning environment. To reach and achieve an academic success, I have to be organized, to manage my time, to be responsible for my university's duties, to be eager to ask questions and participate, to cooperate, to pay attention and take notes, and to listen to everyone's opinion by sharing it with each other. To reach and achieve a successful professional, I have to choose my career path seriously, to be ambitious, to be flexible to express myself and my opinions or point of view freely which I have to improve it, to be in a positive attitude, and to love my career. While to be successful in a career, I have to cooperate and collaborate with everyone, to act as a leader, to be honest, to be energetic, to be respectful, to master & manage time, and to be responsible.
As a conclusion, everyone wants or has a different view of a learning environment. However, he/she has at the end to be educated whether through schools or through a different way. Also, the principles and values of education are important. Both teach students everything that is not written in books. That's is why each different learning environment, principles & values differ from each other can teach you more than a book can teach because you'll deal with different people from different societies, see how they think and act, and how they deal with each other. Finally, we can say that all of this paper opens up the door for our Sociology course.
