Vires, artes and mores have been the guiding philosophy behind Florida State University for almost one hundred years. Religion and my family, especially my grandfather, have been mine throughout my life. My family has taught me to have high morals, to be strong, to see the beauty in everyone and everything around me and to have a character, by instilling their customs and traditions in me.
Religion and my family, especially my grandfather has given me my moral, physical and intellectual strengths. I will always remember the stories my grandfather told me about the experiences in his prayer groups and at church. There were so many people from many different backgrounds with challenging obstacles in their lives and the strength that it took to overcome them. The different ways they each found religion. The moral decisions that they were are face with and how they overcame them. The stories and experiences played a tremendous part in molding me. Being in this Catholic community has made a huge impact in my life.
My grandfather has been my greatest inspiration in my life. He accomplished so many things in his life that I am so proud of. He was the valedictorian in his high school, he was an architect, he later attained a bachelor's degree in Mercy College and graduated with honors. He was a professional soccer player, and he sang opera, plays the trumpet, trombone and other musical instruments. He showed me the beauty in art and music. He has set high standards for me to follow and gives me the support to achieve them all.
My family is the backbone to my character, customs and traditions. I have received so much love and support from them as long as I can remember. They have made me feel that anything I want to achieve in my life, I can. Knowing that they are behind me gives me the ability to know that I can accomplish anything I set out to. They have provided me with stability during my life, which I find to be a very important trait to have. We have a lot of Hispanic traditions that we follow as well as religious customs. These customs and traditions have made me into a very well rounded young man.
I have lived by the vires, artes and mores' philosophy throughout my life and plan on continuing while I attend Florida State University if I am given the chance to do so. If given the opportunity I will be a great example of one of your successful and well-rounded graduates and a follower of the University's amazing philosophy.
