What is the first thing that usually comes to mind about Orlando, Florida? Disney World. Growing up in Central Florida means that you have to make the almost religious trip to one of the parks. Being surrounded by tourism has given me the opportunity to see the beaming faces of both the young and old tourists. Through the Cornell University: School of Hotel Administration, I will be able to obtain a career that help people create memories that last a lifetime.
My time in the Video Productions program at my school made me realize the thing I love most. I love making people laugh and be happy. To me, giving another person happiness is a gift that is priceless. Because of my experiences through WROR TV, I have become a more sociable person. I am the senior anchor, and I am also a producer and host of my own segment. As the anchor, I joke around and sometimes make a fool out of myself for the amusement of others. When I anchor, I broadcast throughout the whole school, but I am speaking indirectly to the viewers because I am actually looking and talking to the camera. On the other hand my segment calls for me to go to random students around campus and ask them a question face to face. At first, I was really nervous, talking to a camera is one thing but talking to a real person is a completely different story. I felt awkward and shy talking and filming to complete strangers, at first. As I slowly became accustomed to it, I develop into a much more animated host. I have matured in to a better speaker and a more open individual. These skills will help my profession since my job will require me to speak and help complete strangers.
Keeping up with academics and balancing sports, clubs, community service, Video Production projects and orchestra has compelled me to develop time management skills. Every night I stayed up late with what seemed an almost insurmountable pile of homework. I learned to do work little by little in whatever down time I had. For example, I would have like 10 minutes before volleyball practice everyday. The year before I used that time to socialize. My junior year I used to cut down on my ever-growing forest of homework. This will reflect on my success at the School of Hotel Administration for I have the skills needed to schedule a plan and finish my objectives.
A cheap plane ticket from Orlando, Florida to Ithaca, New York is around 200 dollars. The tuition at Cornell University is $36,300. But the chance to graduate from the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration and have a career making smiles and memories is absolutely priceless.
