a.We know you lead a busy life, full of activities, many of which are required of you. Tell us about something you do for the pleasure of it. (*)
I like to play Roller Coaster Tycoon, a game that simulates the role of a theme park creator/manager. Each park has its own missions. Most of these missions involve a financial goal, such as getting out of debt or attracting a certain number of guests to the park. However I ignore these goals in favor of my own goal of creating the most elaborate and enjoyable ride designs. I get almost as much of a thrill from putting my ideas in motion on the game as I do from riding real roller coasters.
b.Although you may not yet know what you want to major in, which department or program at MIT appeals to you and why?
Environmental Engineering is the most attractive MIT program. My AP Environmental Science teacher has revealed to me the serious danger that humans have put themselves in by ignoring or putting off sustainability problems. People have achieved many incredible technological feats, yet in creating a hi-tech society, we have forgotten to formulate a solid plan to keep our world running when vital supplies such as lead, copper and fossil fuels run dry. Because MIT is always working to solve difficult real-world problems, I believe there is no better place to go for someone looking to stop the procrastination.
I realize that its probably not a good idea to put something like video games for question A, but it is honestly what I like to do, and the directions say to be honest. If it's really a bad idea I suppose I could find something else.
