What are your long-term career and/or educational goals?
ï‚ˇ What type of science or engineering are you most interested in and why?
ï‚ˇ What research topics are you interested in and why?
ï‚ˇ Please list any relevant skills (i.e., lab, computer, technical) that you have - whether you have
learned them in a course, or in a lab or workplace.
ï‚ˇ If you have already had a research experience, please briefly describe it

My parents invest all their time, effort, and what ever little money they earn in me and my future. My parents expected me to succeed in school and serve as a role model to my youngest sister because my older sister dropped out. My drive to succeed in education and life stems from the hopes that one day, my parents will not lose face as I will continue to achieve and pursue goals that they only dreamt of. As of right now, a short-term goal would be ending the year with phenomenal grades and to being granted my admission into the University of Washington, Seattle. With my college education, I would like to continue to medical school, helping the mentally ill or less fortunate. By majoring in biochemistry in a leading research institution such as the University of Washington and by going on to medical school, I will aquatint myself with the setting and roles of medicine in hopes that I too, will be able to join the healthcare team.

During my high school career, I took advantage of the numerous opportunities by taking classes such as biology, chemistry, human development and genetics. This year in genetics, I am participating in the Bio-Expo, a research project done annually at the University of Washington. I will demonstrate my understanding of biotechnology and bio-medicine. Currently, I am working on a research project about how Birth Control effects the body and how hormones are manipulated. In the near future I would like to research on how twins can have the same genes but one can have something wrong with a chromosome that could potentially cause them to be mentally disabled. This year my desire in wanting to pursue higher education in the medical field has increased. My mother's health and lack of education has played a huge factor in this decision.

My mother is beginning to slowly lose her vitality. She has no medical or dental insurance. The beginning of this year, she had surgery and had gallstones removed, had six teeth removed because they caused her pain and she is losing all her strength. With the help of her physicians at SeaMar and the medicine they prescribed, she is slowly able to regain her health. With my education and medical degree, I will someday assist my mother by providing guidance and advice regarding medicine. I want to help those who can not help themselves and don't understand the importance of their health. I will one day be able to dispense potentially life saving medication to the ill. There is no greater sense of accomplishment than being the doctor responsible for giving the medication that will help someone survive.

Aside from the BioExpo this year, I have not had much experience working on research projects however, it is my desire to learn more. Last year in my honors chemistry class I was able to gain lab experience by manipulating trials and writing lab reports. I am self motivated and willing to take on new tasks. I'm aiming to make differences in the people of my life today. The community I live in influenced me to tie in my community service projects with medicine and someday help less fortunate by giving them the healthcare, compassion and guidance. Sciene is a world of endless possibilities and discoveries yet to be made. My love for science, my desire to learn and my passion for helping others equally contribute to my dream of becoming a doctor. The many years of schooling, dedication, and hard work are are essential in becoming a doctor. However, my life experiences have prepared me with the perseverance and mental strenth it takes to conquer ever obstacle that is to come my way.

[quote=sunset05]My parents expected me to succeed in school and serve as a role model to my youngest sister because my older sister dropped out.

I was their hope because my older sister dropped out from school; They expected me to succeed with my studies and be a role model to my youngest sister.

My drive to succeed in education and life stems from the hopes that one day, my parents will not lose face as I will continue to achieve and pursue goals that they only dreamt of.

.... this needs re-phrasing... The sentence sounds too crowded

As of right now, a short-term goal would be ending the year with phenomenal grades and to being granted my admission into the University of Washington, Seattle.

So, my short term goal is to complete the degree with outstanding grades and having accepted by the University of Washington, Seattle to follow cccccc (write the course you intend to follow)

Good job. Your hook (first sentence) can be improved. Make it more inviting, exciting, alluring, or simply more interesting. I am just not really motivated by the first sentences. Make it dynamic and engaging. You did well otherwise.
