I knew that at the moment I graduated from College I was going to pursue getting into a graduate school because I enjoyed research and science very much; however, being in graduate school gave me a new perspective of what I want to do with my life, and discovered my passion for helping others.
Immediately after graduating form University of North Florida, I got accepted into graduate school at University of Nebraska Lincoln in which I worked doing Biochemical research and as teaching assistant. Being a teaching assistant made me realize that I want to help kids to be successful in life, I want to show them how wonderful the world of science can be. Every student should learn how to solve problems, think critically, and to be able to take the learning process outside of the classroom and into their everyday lives. These are skills that the next generation will need regardless of what road they may choose to take in life, and these are values that I feel I am up to challenge of instilling into the students.
It is my firm belief that I have the skill set, desire, and determination to be successful in the Peace Corps. I love to learn new languages and explore new cultures, I have several friends from all over the world and love to get involved in new cultural activities those are one of the reasons I enrolled in Chinese and French classes. I also believe that my multicultural and international background would give me a rapport with students from various backgrounds and situations, and a unique perspective with which to share, instruct, and enrich my time serving in the Peace Corps.
I am informed and prepared in my subject area, and have the personal determination and willpower to be successful regardless of the challenges that may lay ahead for me in the Peace Corps. I am prepared to meet the core expectations from Peace Corps, I have a great sense of commitment to help others in any part of the world and I am willing to serve the full term with no complications. I want to improve the life of people with whom I will be leaving and working by helping children learn various disciplines, especially environmental and science courses, and I also expect to learn from them every day. I am aware that we all have different cultures in this world and share a different view of life, but I am respectful to others and I plan to build a trustful and cordial environment with the people I will be living and working with. I do understand that this job is a 24/7 and I am more than happy to help others whenever I am needed.
I think one of the hardest things I will face is realizing the level of help needed by the people I will be working with, I don't know yet the hardships that I will encounter in my journey, but I plan to overcome those challenges by integrating to the community, sharing their culture and treating the people with respect. I think that helping the community that I will be working with, can make a difference. I value teamwork and collaboration with others, and I think that with my skills and the Peace Corp group I can make a difference in those people lives, by sharing my knowdelege, my skills, my culture and most importantly my desire to help.
