Santa vs. Christmas

With a red coat, a three-cornered hat, and a thick waist belt Santa Claus the symbol of Christmas. Most kids want to find him as an X. However, why Santa wears red coat? This is because, in 1931, Coca-Cola Company dressed him a red coat which reminds the image of Coca-Cola since decreasing in sale of cokes during the winter.

Only a few people remember the exact date that they realized there is no Santa Claus, and I am in that few of them. If my memories are correct, it was 1999, December 20th, snowy night of winter. As a seven-year-old boy, who has few months ahead to enter an elementary school, I was trained by my mom to be a good boy with the emphasized statement, 'Santa will give present only to good boys.'

The origin of an affair came from television. While my family sat watched a show program, the MC asked to a singer, "When did you grasp a truth about inexistence of Santa?" I still don't get the psychology of the MC why does he ask such questions in the show program for whole family member. What he is really driving at? Why does he just gabble boisterously that there is Santa in one side, and ask such question in another side. Following answer shot a finishing blow. "I did not know what Santa is when I was young but my children still believe Santa Claus because of Christmas present."

Instantaneously, the strain overspread in living room, and I could feel my parents' prick gazing to read my face. I instinctively closed my eyes, and made up my mind; rather being a 'smart boy' who deny Santa and lead a gloomy Christmas without presents than pretending a 'pure boy' who believe Santa with a wonderful Christmas. I successfully digested my role. I still subscribe a verse, 'The child is father of the man,' in completely different meaning of William Wordsworth's.

It is impossible to know exactly when the folklore started that Santa distributes presents in Christmas. However, from historical record, St. Nicholas is real figure who lived from 245 to middle of 300s. At that time, the world people believed wasn't that big, population wasn't that large, and number of children was much lesser. They might think it was possible to give present to children in whole world in one night.

However, in 21st century, the world fully fills up the surface of earth and the population is already over 6 billion. Nowadays, the story of Santa is mostly for kids. But, if you calculate once at least once what Santa supposed to do in Christmas Eve, you cannot but esteem him. Besides you will comprehend that he is a saint, as well as a 'superman.'

From UNICEF, there are 2.1 billion young under 18. Among them, except children who believe in Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Judaism, 400 million children would be customers. Even if we assume one good boy in each home, Santa would suffer from crammed schedule visiting 160 million houses.

The time given to Santa is only one day, Christmas Eve. Although we consider rotation of earth, the maximum hours can be used are 31 hours. It indicates that call on 160 million houses in 31 hours, shifting 1,434 houses in a second. Now you will know Santa parks his sledge, go into the house through chimney to give present, and come back and move to other homes in 0.00007s.

Moving between houses also needs astronomical velocity. The area of earth is 150000000km^2. Hence, 29% of surface is ground, we can say that the distance between houses is about 1km. To cover 160 million houses without break, his Rudolf should travel with the speed of 1,434km/s, i.e. Mach 4,218. I even did not count the time taken to move through chimney with his potbellied stomach. However, if the sledge scuds much faster than sonic, it creates thunder-like sound called 'sonic boom,' and we would not sleep.

Those assumptions menace the existence of Santa in physically way. To get that speed in 0.0001 second, Santa exposed the force which 1.4 billion times greater than the force of gravity. The weight of present is not a matter to be slighted. 1kg for each kid becomes 1600000kg for all. A normal reindeer can carry about 150kg, so for 1600000kg, Santa necessitate 1.06 million reindeers. How benevolent he is!

Santa cannot help considering the shortest way to travel all over world. This is the issue what has concerned from scientist, traveling salesman problem. With five cities, it does not take too much time because there are only 120 possible ways. However, with ten cities, it augments to 3,628,800 ways. It is not bad. However, when we see 25 cities, the story is different. It takes 48 times more than the age of earth. Then it is unnecessary to say how it would take to calculate for 160 million houses' possibility.

Since when I have lied myself on the bed in Christmas Eve, I again remind Santa. I wondered what I would get in this Christmas or until when should I pretend to believe Santa. With neither expectation nor agony, I draw the image of Santa-the image that load 1600000kg of bale on the 1.06 million numbers of reindeers and flying in the twinkling of an eye.

After few years, I may have children who will smile and happy with the present from Santa Claus. Although I finished finding my Christmas's X in too early age, I want to keep my children's X as long as I can. And I hope to explain how the present from Santa is 'precious and valuable' after they find out their X in their way.

...dressed him a red coat, which reminds consumers about the image of Coca-Cola as a way of improving sales, since decreasing in sale of cokes during the winter. (Add a thesis statement here before ending the paragraph).

This is the issue that has concerned many scientists (as well as traveling salesmen).

With five cities, it does not take too much time because there are only 120 possible ways. ---awesome! I am really enjoying this essay.

At the end, maybe you should do this:...in their own way.

I hope you do not have to cut out too much of this essay, because it is great! Please type it all over again below, using the corrections you have been given in this thread. Practice the correct grammar by speaking the sentences aloud as you type according to the corrections you get at EssayForum.
