PROMPT: Describe a goal you have set for yourself and how you plan to accomplish it. How would you compare your educational interests and goals with other students in your school?
" The road leading to a goal does not separate you from the destination; it is essentially a part of it" (Charles DeLint). Everyone has specific ambitions, although a long term goal cannot be accomplished without a plan and short term goals. Short term goals are merely stepping stones on the journey to a long term goal. For my dream to come true I have mapped out short terms goal I will need to conquer in order to reach my long term goal. The long term goal I have set for myself is to open a daycare, while still continuing to take part in my interests which includes continuing to play piano and participate in community service. The short term goals I will use to succeed are by graduating from an esteemed university by exemplifying the qualities of a successful and well-balanced student, getting an understanding of the needed knowledge by taking various courses in business and child development, and eventually working for corporate and learning about successful business practices relevant but not limited to accounting, financing, and consulting that I can implement in my own business in the future.
Once I begin college, hopefully at University of Oklahoma, I will be a successful student by prioritizing and working my best to strive in academics. I am confident that I will be successful in accomplishing this short term goal because I have the potential, knowledge, and motivation that I will. Also, from all my experiences during high school I have learned not only many things about business, including marketing, networking, organizing, and management, but also that I have a passion for a field in business. Through all my experiences I have learned that this is what I am set on and will be successful in. I hope to continue to have more experiences in college through organizations and programs. Being a well-balanced student means realizing how much you can take on, being organized, and prioritizing. Academics will be my main focus but I hope to still participate in various organizations. My goal is to not only be well balanced in college but also when I start my own business. I hope to continue playing piano and continue participating in community service activities.
I plan to receive an understanding of the needed knowledge by taking various courses and participating in various extracurricular activities involving business and child development. I want to combine both in way that they can be comprehensive together. I hope to understand how to relate both and eventually start my business using this understanding of both. I hope that my previous involvements will help me in understanding the concepts in the classroom, but also in the very unique IBC program. I feel that my experience in Junior Achievement, a program similar to IBC that gives students an opportunity to start their own company using stock for funding, gave me the experience needed to have an substantial amount of knowledge going in. I feel that I will also be successful in the courses I plan to take centered around child development because of my long term experience volunteering at the Early Childhood Development Center. It gave me the opportunity to teach a classroom of kids while learning from them as much as they learn from me. I have learned about how they think and what they respond well too through my experience. I have confidence that this will help me in the classes that involve child development.
For the last 10 months, I have participated in an internship at ExxonMobil Development Company. This experience has benefitted me in many ways. It gave me the opportunity to work in a real corporate environment while also teaching me things that I would not otherwise be able to learn in a classroom setting. I have used excel, word, and PowerPoint programs for projects at EMDC and I have also seen the professionalism that comes in play when working in corporate. I know I will succeed in business at university. All the experiences that I was lucky to have throughout my high school career others did not. Although, this experience was beneficial I feel that it is important to start in a corporate environment to get real world experience and apply what I learn at university. EMDC gave me the opportunity to apply what I learned in a high school class room. I hope working for corporate after college will benefit me in the fact that I will be learning about successful business practices relevant but not limited to accounting, financing, and consulting that I can implement in my own business in the future.
What makes my goals different from other students in my school is the fact that I have planned out my future and hope to accomplish my long term goal by accomplishing each short term goal. Also, most students just hope to be well balanced during college but I hope to be well balanced throughout my life. Even when working I hope to still participate in my interests. Music has always been a big part of my life, I love playing piano and I hope to continue it throughout my life. Another thing that I have always loved doing is giving back to my community through volunteering. There is no better feeling in the world than the feeling you get when you have helped someone else.
The long term goal I have set for myself is to open a daycare, while still continuing to take part in my interests which includes continuing to play piano and participate in community service. The short term goals I will use to succeed are by graduating from an esteemed university by exemplifying the qualities of a successful and well-balanced student, getting an understanding of how to merge both fields using the knowledge I receive from taking various courses in business and child development, and eventually working for corporate and learning about successful business practices that I can implement in my own business in the future. I hope to accomplish this by working hard, being well balanced, and learning as much as possible.
Any comments would help! Not only on grammar but also if you like the essay and think I answered the question well.
