Gettysburg College students are engaged learners and 'make a difference' both on and off campus through their academic and extracurricular activities. Describe a situation in which you have made a difference in your school or community and what you learned from that experience.
"Everybody thinks of changing humanity and nobody thinks of changing himself" Leo Tolstoy. Most people tell the wrong side of this world and what they need to do to make it right viewing from their comfort zone. Some consider the need for Money; some feel the need for political action, and so forth. But if they were correct, the world would be just right a long time ago. It is our personality which can change humanity, its individual's change that can make a difference, and it is we who can make our world a better place to live. From my experience in my country Ethiopia, most people are not aware of this. When every time I saw them doing things such as putting trash everywhere, cutting trees and not caring that much for their environment, I couldn't control my anger. One day I realized that instead of blaming for what they have done wrong, why don't I teach them practically? So I joined the school environmental club and initiated all the members to plant trees in our school compound. Besides that, I made our home green with the help of my family. As a result, our neighbors and most people in our village appreciated us and started to follow our way. For GOD sake, this was the key! I learned from my experience that, it is easy to show someone that he was wrong through your work instead of just telling and blaming him.
