ASSIGNMENT: Florida State University is more than just a world-class academic institution preparing you for a future career. We are a caring community of well-rounded individuals who embrace leadership, learning, service, and global awareness. With this in mind, which of these characteristics appeal most to you, and why?
The characteristics of Florida State University are naturally embedded into my character. One characteristic that represents FSU is the importance of service. Being heavily involved with service I can appreciate its true meaning. Approaching 300 hours of community service, I believe that I represent my community and have the background to become a future leader of my time. For example, I've been continuously chosen to represent the 1,800 student body population in our schools advisory council. For the last two years, every Tuesday evening is reserved for going over school budgets, improvement plans, standardized testing benchmarks, and upcoming dates. Also, for the past 3 years, I've represented my Rotary high school club at Relay for Life. We raise thousands of dollars every year to contribute towards American Cancer Society. Unlike students my age, being a part of this organization has given me more appreciation and empathy for cancer victims and survivors. Not to mention that only a few weeks ago, the board of Venice High School Republican Club, including myself, was invited to the GOP Statesman of Year dinner where we met Donald Trump. I was honored to be one out of five students given this opportunity. We attended an elaborate dinner at the Ritz Carlton and were placed three tables down from the most successful man in business. Besides glamorous food and budget plans, my time is also occupied with the most rigorous club in school. Our schools Interact Rotary Club is not the usual sit back and simply just show up kind of situation. You have to participate in at least one activity per week. These events can range from car washes to JDRF walks on Siesta Beach. For the past three years, I have been 100% committed to this service providing club. Over my high school years, I've been able to meet some very influential individuals and have been given some once in a life time opportunities. After assisting with the Boys and Girls Christmas Banquet last year, I promised myself that when I became of age I'd take after the incredible adults I met and be a "big" for a "little" in their organization. Obviously, I'm not one to just let the cards play themselves out. I have the energy and drive to develop and grow as an individual. Providing service is a act of maturity and isn't for every seventeen year old. I take a lot of pride in bettering myself and my community. Along with this idea, I also have home life, friends, and dual enrollment to balance. But I believe that if you work hard, only extraordinarily good things will happen to you. My story is a perfect example of that. Florida State University believes that through acts of service leadership and reflection is revealed. Being a volunteer, I can express to you that your belief of service is completely true. From day to day services everyone pitches in and does their best work to provide an experience for one another. No matter where I go following high school, I will continue to participate in the act of service and develop outside knowledge that will lead me to grow as a young lady.
