I want to transfer to SUNY Old Westbury and I need to complete a supplement application essay. Could you guys tell me your thoughts on my essay. Like what I should change, any mistakes etc. I would really appreciate it :)

The question is : Please describe the challenges you expect to face at the College at Old Westbury and how you are prepared to meet those challenges

Upon entering the College at Old Westbury, I believe I have a good idea of what challenges I expect to face and how to overcome. As a transfer student, there will be many challenges that I will face such as the fact that I will be in a completely new environment that will be filled with new people and different experiences.

Socially it may be difficult to start all over. As freshman, there are many opportunities for students to get to know many new and different people, but as a transfer student there might not be as many opportunities out there. Coming from a college where I am accustomed to seeing such familiar faces everyday on campus, to a college where not only am I unfamiliar with the people but also all the buildings on campus will be very difficult. To make social issues less challenging for me, I intend to get involved in student organizations and campus activities that really spark my interest like a club that gives back to charity and an African Student club such as one that I apart of at the previous college I attended.

Another challenge I expect to face would be challenges academically. All colleges and universities have their own different courses and course equivalencies. Some of the credits I earned at the previous college I attended may not be accepted here. I may lose credits and I may have to retake certain courses. Not only is that somewhat time consuming but it will also be expensive. To help make this transition easier for me, I hope to sit and talk to an advisor or an admission counselor, about transfer credits and how to make up for any credits that were lost because of my decision to transfer schools.

Also academically, I still have challenges with the teaching style of some professors. My freshman year it took quite some time for me to grasp the new teaching styles of professors, such as lecturing. As I go into my sophomore year of college I am prepared to meet these challenges by adjusting my style of learning and studying to be in tune with professors teaching style, that way my chances of succeeding in their class will be much greater. My freshman year that is something I struggled with and I didn't receive the highest of grades in some of my classes, but at this college I intend to retake those courses to receive a higher grade. Doing so will cause for me to take on more independent responsibilities, but I am up for doing so.

Even though the challenges that I expect to face at the College at Old Westbury will be difficult and at times very intimidating, I am ready for any challenge that life has in store for me. I strongly believe that I will be able to deal with any challenge that may come my way at the College of Old Westbury.

.... this second line is very close in its idea to the first. You better combine the two into one line.

Socially it may be difficult to start all over.

... good

As freshman, there are many opportunities for students to get to know many new and different people, but as a transfer student there might not be as many opportunities out there.

Although there are many opportunities for freshman to network with others, transfer students would have limitations in that respect.

Coming from a college where I am accustomed to seeing such familiar faces everyday on campus, to a college where not only am I unfamiliar with the people but also all the buildings on campus will be very difficult.

.... I feel you better say something more logical than this. These are very general challenges for an undergraduate. But as a transfer student you may be having issues with a new curriculum as well which demands you to have lots of support from your colleagues. So that would be a big challenge for you to suddenly form friendships with new set of people who have joined the campus before you and already got into cliques.
