Hello everyone! I am currently working on an application to transfer to FIT for Fall 2012 and I was hoping someone could help me with my editing or if I should expand on certain areas.
The topic of the required essay is: "What makes you a perfect candidate for FIT? Why are you interested in the major you are applying to? The essay is also your chance to tell us more about your experiences, activities and accomplishments. (No more than 750 words, please.)" Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
When walking into my bedroom at home, the first things you see are fashion advertisements marketing various designers including, but not limited to, Burberry and Marc Jacobs. When I was just ten years old, I received my first copy of Vogue. I remember how enthralled I was in the movement of the clothing and the color schemes. I like to consider this the point in my life where my infatuation with fashion began. As I got older, my obsession grew with access to fashion blogs and photos of celebrities in their everyday wear, which I used as the inspiration for my daily outfits. It got to the point where not only my friends from school, but also my older sisters, would ask me how I was constantly on top of the trends and how I always knew what places to shop at to get the best price. This is where my desire to be in the Fashion Merchandise Management program at FIT comes from.
This past year I have been going to the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles. After spending a year there, I have come to realize that while the fashion merchandising program at FIDM is respectable, it does not challenge me enough academically. Therefore, my reasons for transfer are purely for educational purposes. The Fashion Merchandise Management program at FIT is the strongest in the country and I want to have the best education in my field of study.
While I was in Los Angeles, I mostly kept myself occupied trying to keep up in my classes and do my best work so I could get good grades that would aid me in transferring to a different school. However, when I had downtime, I would volunteer for fashion shows being a dresser and also helping set up the viewing area. Overall, I was ecstatic to be able to help out behind the scenes at a fashion show and be exposed to that side of the industry.
It is well known that the Fashion Institute of Technology is one of the top schools when it comes to studying fashion, and it would be a great honor to be accepted into the Fashion Merchandising Management program at FIT. After researching the program and what it entails, I have come to a decision that if I want to learn fashion the right way, I have no other choice but to go to FIT. I feel that if I am accepted into the fashion merchandising program at FIT, I will receive the best education that I could get.
As my transcript from FIDM shows, I have done well in my classes. And I am fairly certain that I will be able to handle the workload that FIT has in store for me if I am accepted into the Fashion Merchandise Management program. I believe I will be able to grow and prosper in the environment that is provided to me at FIT both academically and professionally.
