let me know what you think about my essay and if i should change anything! also if anyone could help me think of a good name or maybe a more catchy opening line?
The film "Chocolat" tells the story of a woman who refuses to conform to the moral and religious beliefs of a small French village, who possesses many traits that I admire and strive to have. Vianne Rocher focuses on what she loves, her small chocolaterie that she opens, in a village that is ready to begin observing lent. Although Vianne is resented by the town for this, she still is willing to befriend and help anyone who will allow her to do so. Like Vianne, I also am willing to look ahead, instead of back, to help people who others may not think deserve it. Vianne eventually brings change to the town, and proves that change can be good for everyone and unnecessary grudges do not need to be held, just because someone is different. If more people pursued the charitable opinions on others that Vianne has, people would not be hurt by wrongful judgements as often as they are.
Vianne shows her strong and independent side as a single mother who works hard for what she believes in, like another role model I have, my mother. My mother has successfully supported three children on her own, while keeping a full time job that she thoroughly enjoys. This displays my mothers strength to me and has taught me to do the same, no matter what obstacles I may face. Both my mother and Vianne found something they love to do, so they will never have to work a day in their life. As I approach college, I hope to create a path to a similar life that I can enjoy and be proud of, like the inspirational women, my mother and Vianne Rocher.
From both my mother, and Vianne Rocher, I've learned to value what I love, friendship, forgiveness, sharing, and acceptance. When I discover different things or people that I love and wish to hold on to, I will not let trivial obstacles ruin my future. As an independent woman, like Vianne and my mother, I don't care about conforming to the same feelings as my peers, however I would never reject anyone who has different ones from me. I know that this can form diverse and interesting friendships. I am also willing to forgive and forget, as Vianne was with her skeptics, so I can move foreword and maintain sociable relationships. I hope to live a life similar to Vianne Rocher from "Chocolate, and my mother, in a sense that I will be as strong, independent, and genuine as them.
