Going, Going, Gone (moving to America essay)

When I was ten years old, I moved to America to live with my mom and step dad. I can still remember how terrified I was of leaving my homeland. I was most nervous about going to a new school where everyone spoke a language that I couldn't understand. I was scared that I wouldn't fit in and make any new friends. Surrounded by the new environment, everything seemed so scary. Through out 5th and 6th grade, I was in a class called ESOL which stands for English Speaking Other Languages where kids from other countries and I learned English. ESOL has definitely helped me with my English but I had to do some more practicing on my own time. For example, I got a library card where I would rent baby books and read them. As time passed, I gradually increase the difficulty level of the books I read until I was finally on track with the rest of my peers.

It has been seven years since I moved here from Poland and looking back from where I'm standing now, I have achieved so much. I'm no longer in ESOL class and in order to challenge myself, I'm taking two AP classes. I am fluent in English but still haven't forgotten Polish. I have overcome my fears of not fitting in and making any friends. Joining different clubs has helped me in meeting lots of people, which some of them are now my best friends. Things have paid off after all this hard work and I am very pound of myself.

Moving to America has definitely helped me in defying the person I am today. It made me much more brave and helped me to realize that everything is possible if you put effort in it and believe in yourself. Also I got to experience different culture and customs, which allowed me to see things from a different perspective. Overcoming this barrier has prepared me for other difficult times that are still ahead of me as I continue this journey. . I have reached a point in my life where I have to decide what's best for myself and what's the next step toward my education. I have learned not to take things for granted and if I push myself, I can do anything I desire.

"Pound" should be "proud", and "which some of" should be "some of which". Good story though!
