People from around the world wonder how it feels to be an American and why Americans should be proud to be an American, well the answer is simple but yet so difficult to receive, it's the sense of freedom. Living in a democratic society has allowed us to gain freedom and power in our country today. Democracy as a political system has allowed us to choose our representatives and hold them accountable for our protection and interest. I believe that if America continues to have a democracy as a political system we could solve the problems that we face with today in our own country and in the world.
Living in a democratic environment has taught me to become a better listener, speaker and leader in my school and community. I have learned to be equally fair to all and learned that everyone has the right to share the thoughts and beliefs. I am apart of a club in my school and my role within this club is to plan and organize event and fundraisers. One of my favorite quotes of all times is by Leo Rosten; he made a statement that will forever be planted in my heart. He once said "The purpose of life is not to be happy - but to matter, to be productive, to be useful, and to have it make some difference that you have lived at all." I always believe that our purpose in life is to help people who are in need, who are struggling to survive the next day. As a club we have fed over 3000 people, donated over a 1000 jackets and shared over a million smiles. In order for me to succeed in planning these events I have learned to listen to other's thoughts and suggestions in order for us as a club to be successful. Abraham Lincoln once said that "A house divided against itself cannot stand", which mean if we divide each other among ourselves we as people will not stand as strong as we did in the past and that is a concept that I have learned throughout life.
