The pie charts give a breakdown of the share of Oscar winners by genre of film in two years 2003 and 2008.
It is noticeable that the Oscar-winning thriller category made up the largest proportion of Oscar winners in all two years. By contrast, comedy won the least prizes in this Award.
In 2003, 42% of the Oscars went on the thriller category. However, this figure experienced a significant by 5% after 5 years. Furthermore, Documentary and Action genres shared the same proportions with 13% in 2003, while there was a deep rise by 4% in Documentary, Award-winning action movies increased to 12% in 2005.
With regard to the Horror category, the proportion of winners increased from 7% in 2003 to 10% in 2005. Similarly, the figure for Science Fiction rose from 11% to 10% over the 5-year period. Finally, Romance and comedy genres had the same figures, remaining steady at 12% and 3% respectively.
