Reading - My favorite subject essay

This is my essay the assignment was :What is your favorite subject? Why? Explain what excites you about this subject.

Reading is my favorite subject at school. It is the class that I take the most interest in.

I am in the only gifted class at Edison. We learn at the speed that is just right for me. In all of my other classes, I am always ahead of what the class is doing and it frustrates me. I do not want to go ahead of the teacher, but at the same time

it is really boring going at a slow pace. Mrs. Parmer, my reading teacher, does not assign homework for the rest of the lesson if she does not finish teaching it. In other classes I am always getting homework because of the slow pase the class goes at.

I feel like I am learning the most in my reading class because we get so much done in class. Everyday we learn about something different which keeps me interested because I am not reviewing the same thing over and over again. I do not ever remember

a time when the pace was slow in reading.

During the year, all the assignments I got helped me. There was always a proper reason for the kind of work we got. All reading assignments got me thinking. It was never simply taking notes or just reading out of a certain text book. Mrs. Parmer thought of creative ways to teach us and it always kept me interested.

Reading class is a place where I am encouraged in many ways. Whenever we turn in our book logs Mrs. Parmer encourages us to read more by saying how many minutes we've read that week. This makes everyone want to read more so that Mrs. Parmer can say a really high number when she tells the whole class how much they've read that week. Another way Mrs. Parmer encourages us is by passing out peppermints whenever we take a test. This was her way of saying "good luck" without giving us any pressure.

The way reading is set up is wonderful. Not only did I learn a lot, I have experienced so much through Mrs. Parmer's teachings.

You should put your thesis sentence more towards the begining of the first paragraph.

Also, what is the subject of the second paragraph? As it stands, you have alot of great reasons for liking reading class but they seem to be arbitrarily listed without organization. Try to organize all the reasons you like this class into distinct categories and then make topic sentences for each subject. Then write a paragraph for every topic sentence that you have.

This will organize your essay so that the paragraph divisions really mean something and so that there is an obvious difference between the main ideas of each paragraph.

You might start with a brief intro paragraph detailing the main ideas of you situation. Then write a paragraph about why other classes do not satisfy you. Then the next paragraph could be about what you love about the reading in reading class and how it satisfies you in a way that the other classes don't. Then the next paragraph could be about what you love about you teacher and so on. Good luck!

Also, don't forget that the prompt asks you to discuss a subject, rather than a specific class. So, while you might discuss how one particular reading class helped inspire you to take an extra interest in English, there should probably be more to the essay that deals with what you like about that subject as a subject. At the moment, it really sounds like you would be just as into math class if it were taught by the same teacher using the same techniques.

In other classes I am always getting homework because of the slow pace the class goes at.

I feel like I am learning the most in my reading class because we get so much done. in class

Every day we learn about something different which keeps me interested because I am not reviewing the same thing over and over again.

Aside from the good advice from Guatama and Sean,...well, Sean hit the nail on the head, suggesting that it seems any class with that teacher would have been your favorite.

I think you mention the name of the teacher so many times that it seems like more of a tribute to Mrs. Parmer than an essay on your favorite class. You could say that because you have such a great teacher, and then in one or two sentences tell why, the reading class is your favorite. For example how does reading affect your life? What great books have you read that you might not have otherwise read?

Kevin's advice is great. That would turn the essay into an essay on your favorite books, which, if you like to read, is a ridiculously fun topic to write on.
