Overall, the total number of European students going to Australia increased over the two years, while the number of Australian students studying in Europe remained unchanged. Among the European countries, Germany had the most significant rise in exchange students.
Looking at the table of exchange students from universities in Europe to Australia.In 2007, a total of 186 students from Europe moved to Australia, and this number rose to 226 in 2009. France had the highest number of students in both years, with 61 in 2007 and a slight decrease to 60 in 2009. While that, Germany saw the most significant increase, from 27 students in 2007 to 63 in 2009. Sweden also witnessed an increase, from 32 to 42 students. Moreover the United Kingdom dropped from 31 to 25. The Netherlands remained stable at 36 students in both years.

The opposite was true for Sweden, the UK, and the Netherlands that all the number of exchange students decreased. Sweden went down from 33 to 27, the UK from 32 to 23, the Netherlands from 32 to 18 respectively .Germany was the only country besides France that showed an increase, rising from 18 to 26 students from 2007 to 2009
