Write a short essay (one to two pages, double-spaced) answering this question:
What does Tan mean by her last line, "Together we knew in our hearts what we should remember, what we can forget."
[b]Here is my essay:
"Together we knew in our hearts what we should remember, what we can forget." With these words, Tan ended her story to teach readers great lessons about the heart; (Is any punctuation mark needed here?) this small but glorious organ. It is the leader of our hapiness, so good feelings and memories should be stored in and bad feelings should be regularly cleaned.
Heart's language is more plain and honest than words and acts language and it's voice is the loudest. In their permanent memory of their hearts, Tan and her mother loved each other, hoped happiness to each other. But they were hatefully treating each other because of few words said unintentionally or some tantrums and ill humors that caused negative attitudes. This situation lasted for a long time, but the reality and good things will win at the end no matter how long they disappear. When the reality appeared in Tan's story, it removed false masks and revealed their real honest emotions; love, peace, respect, and forgiveness. The deep emotions, which engendered between the mother and her daughter, between their hearts, their feelings, and between their souls, could not be eliminated in a one-minute-silly puff.
Tan words included also the way that we should apply to maintain happy hearts. Wise control of our feelings and emotions influences our behaviors positively. First, keeping nice feelings alive in our hearts has an encouraging impact in our life. They enrich the soul and provide it with happiness and strength to deal with problems and face daily difficulties effectively. On the contrary, all bad memories and feelings are forgettable and do not leave except regret and sorrow in our hearts. Moreover, they prevent us from going easy through the life and deprived us of keeping good feelings. As they have a negative influence on us and they all are forgettable, so forgiveness and forget of peoples' mistakes, especially those whom we live with, are the best healer to bad feelings. We are who decide whether to forget them or not. We should always remember that strong and nice relation with someone in our life should not be ended because of a silly puff. Then we would not give the daily clashes any attention, just let those "what we could forget" pass peacefully and time will completely heal all sorrows and hatreds.
Heart is the most important and greatest place to you, so keep it white and forgive your parents' mistakes, your brothers' and sisters' peccadilloes, and your friends' lapses. As you delete all bad feelings from your heart, you can fill it with love, peace, and good feelings. If you apply that, congratulations! You have a happy heart.
