Genres and Discourse Communities

I need to write an essay about how a genre helped me in my discourse community to become a better reader & writer. Please help! :)

I'm not sure what you mean here... oh, I know now.
Well, first off, choose a specific genre that inspired you or helped you become a better reader and writer.
Then talk about how it inspired or helped you. Did the particular style of the genre inspire you to pursue writing? Etc...

Well, what specific genre do you like to read? And, how does or did this genre help you to become a better writer? Have you one specific genre that you like over others? Have you read a lot of one kind of book? Do you like to read a specific type of book? After you read a book, don't you get the feeling that you can (or might be able to) write better? Don't you see different uses of words or sentences that you have not seen before?

Try to answer these questions, then try to write something along those lines and present it to the group/forum. I think that you will get a better response.

How a genre helped you? The only way a genre can help you is if you like a genre so much that it motivates and inspires you. Do you think that is the right way to understand this task? Like Mark and Eugene, I wonder if you have some more info to help us understand.

ok I'm going to ask you to do an exercise, follow the following steps:
Step 1: Write down the names of all your favourite books, stories and poems that you have ever read along with the writer's names, if you can't remember the names then simply write a statement or word or whatever that reminds you of it.

Step 2: Write down the genre of that piece or book against the name, i.e., write the word or statement that describes the idea or feel of the book. For example:

Book: The Da Vinci code
Author: Dan Brown
Genre: Mystery and thriller
Step 3: Now short list all the names that you have enjoyed reading the most and which have evoked creative ideas in your mind that strongly provoked you to write something of your own,i.e., influenced you to write.

Step 4: Finally noticed that which genre has influenced you most of all. That genre will most certainly have something that you can relate to yourself or with you surroundings or current happenings or anything else that is close to your heart and mind.

Mariam has given you a sure way of getting this essay started! Take a look at her 4 steps she has written for you -- then sit down with pen and paper and try to write something that will or is reflected in the genre that you like to read. You can build your essay from that. Present it to the forum and we will take a look at it.

critical analysis of British and American Science Fiction- intro help

Mostly going to be looking at Doctor Who and (the original) Star Trek, but introducing them both at the start of the essay is proving to be a mental block.

Full title is - "Write a critical Analysis of one of the television Genres you have studied in book 5. Your analysis should take note of both textual and contextual features. You should include close reference to at least two series from the genre of your choice."

How about:
The British science fiction series' of Doctor Who and Star Trek are simply viewed as the best ever made. Nothing has since compared to them.
