Hi everyone,
I am really confused about illustration essays. I know that they have many more examples than other essays.
But I can't understand how illustration essay differs from others types of essays. I would like to know other core points of differences.
Besides I need help about selecting illustration essay topics with some example topics.
I have posted this question on some other Q/A sites but have not got any satisfactory and clear answer.
I hope my problem will be solved here.
Thanks to everybody who contributes.
It is a kind of expository essay. The illustration essay paints a picture in the mind. It is a demonstration of that writing concept called "show, don't tell." You bring the reader into the scene with brilliant imagery.
What is the difference between an illustration essay and a descriptive essay? It is a subtle difference. When you are assigned an ilustration essay, the teacher wants you to practice imagery.

You write is as the reader has a picture of what's happening in your essay, in his mind. Most novels are written that way.
You can think of an illustration essay as being a sort of argumentative essay where all of your evidence comes from detailed descriptive anecdotes from your own life experience. That will put you in the right ballpark, at least.
I am glad and would like to thank to all of you guys for taking time out to reply.
Can you do me one more favor and suggest me some illustration essay topics as well.
I personally love reading fantasy books like the Sword of Truth Series by Terry Goodkind because of the way he set's the scene, the way in which he describes his character's.
With a small amount of imagination one of those character's could be standing next to you in the room. I guess the point of an illustration essay is to make the words on the page come alive to the reader. Perhaps pretend you are describing your favourite show to someone who is blind, you don't want them to miss anything and you don't really want to give them too much info that overwhelm them. So you describe the crucial and best bits in detail.
Like opening that present - you don't need to open it all the way to see what it is... but you can look at the shape, shake it and maybe open one corner. I was told when describing something remember to use all your sense's, sight, touch, smell etc.
As for some examples - what do you like doing that you could share with other people?
Hope that helps

what do you mean under illustration paragraphs?
I want to help, but if I just give you some paragraphs that will be cheating, so what should we do?
I have an idea: please tell me about a time you saw someone act brave and get a good result. Please write at least 4 sentences to tell me what happened, who the person was, and what the situation was.
:-)
Also, please write a few sentences about a time when someone invented a new way to do something. Why was it necessary to invent a new way?
(history, etymology, lexical, illustration) need help of extended definition essay
Hi folks, I need a help on this,
My topic is about : Using at least four distinct patterns (e.g., history, etymology, lexical, illustration), write an extended definition of a process or a common noun.
Can you give me some idea/brainstorming about this? Thanks
My guess is that you have to choose a word (process or common noun) and analyze it 4 ways. That seems to be the simplest approach to the prompt - do you have a word limit???
