the topic : The study of history has value only to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives

estimating the value of history

there are two ways to interpret the topic:

- The study of history has value. The value only has impact on our daily lives.
- The study of history has value only when the history, which is be studied, is relevant to our daily lives.

Which of the two is the right interpretation of the topic? Or you have a better idea?
Please give some advice.

My interpretation is -- there is no point in studying history unless it is relevant to our daily lives in some way.

So I think your second interpretation is fine.

Of course, whether you support it or not is up to you.

I tend to incline towards your 2nd interpretation. History - be it political, cultural or scientific can certainly help in making some crucial decisions. Its study is required to understand the possible consequences of a particular action.

Relevance here might mean you don't need to know what some XYZ queen in some ABC country wore on her wedding day. It is not going to drastically change your routine. :-)

The study of history has value only when the history, which is be studied, is relevant to our daily lives.

This is the one.
It is like what ershad says.

This topic is interesting. Some would argue that history should be studied even when it seems to have no practical value in daily life.
