How to start a SOP Essay for Communication Design Graduate at Pratt?

Hi, everyone

I need help in writing SOP for graduate communication design at Pratt. I don't know how to start the essay. Because I actually graduated from Communication Arts (which not related with Communication Design) I don't know how to make my sop interesting, precise, and brief.

I really want to get in because i missed the opportunity twice

Moreover, my grammar is very terrible (as you can notice).

So please please help me

Starting essays can be hard sometimes because you might not know what to write about.
First do a brainstorm of past significant events in your life and why you really would like to continue your education.

Something you can do to start is just write for a good 20 minutes and don't stop.
At least you will have something down and then you can work from it.

No problem about the grammar!

Maybe start the essay by spelling out the difference between Communication Arts vs. Design and why you want to go into Comm Design for grad work. Develop your thesis statement with specifics i.e. which area of Comm Design do you feel most passionate about and why. Weave in some work experience you have had where you achieved or learned something significant (to you.) Include why Pratt (specific classes, profs) to show you have done your research to personalize your app.

Can I ask a question (hope I am not offending) - why (do you think) did you not get in twice? Hopefully, this learning could help you learn from your mistakes. Was it something in the application (grades? financial aid? timing? letter of recommendation?)

I disagree! I think they are related in a fascinating way, and you could make that the theme for your essay. I really, really believe that the key to making it interesting and memorable is to have a THEME that you introduce at the start and remind them of again at the end.

So, if you had to explain your interest in communication design IN ONE SENTENCE, what would that sentence be?
Maybe there is even a single word that perfectly expresses your way of thinking about communication design.

Make your theme so sharp and poignant that it stabs like a spear!
