Here's the statement of interest for the Masters of building science program. Please let me know if there's anything that needs to be modified. Thanks!
Architecture is far more than coordinating state-of-the-art and convenient buildings, but more importantly, architecture has to do with the planning, designing and constructing form, space and ambiance that reflect functional, technical, social, environmental, and aesthetic considerations. The challenge of assembling, fixing, and building captured my intellect at a young age, and offered an ideal discipline that integrated my passion for art and design
My bachelor's degree studies, provided me with a strong knowledge in the theoretical and practical concepts of architecture and shaped the intellectual and practical skills to be involved in hands-on projects in the future. In addition, I participated in personal tours of Iran's contemporary and historical cities, and facilitated relationships with professional mentors in the fields of urban planning and architecture. As the program progressed, I found that my interest in sustainable architecture, particularly because of its interdisciplinary nature and breadth, was rapidly developing and ultimately, transcended my intrigue into architecture.
Prior to graduate school I worked as a Sales Manager in xxx Company, a medical equipment company in Tehran, Iran. My responsibilities included establishing sales objectives by forecasting and developing annual sales quotas for clients; projecting expected sales volume and profit for existing and new products, maintaining sales volume, product mix, and selling price by keeping current with supply and demand.
After gaining some valuable experience in the professional world, I decided to pursue my Masters in Architecture in USC School of Architecture. To get a more comprehensive education, I took the courses in advanced structures, lighting design, BIM, building envelopes and seismic which led to the certificate in Building Science along my Masters in Architecture degree.
After finishing my first year in graduate school, I was awarded an internship sponsored by IESLA in xxx. I was introduced to Title 24 residential guide and did collaborate with the research team on high efficacy fixtures and affordable energy saving lighting strategies. I have worked in multiple architecture and engineering firms in the US where I got familiar with building codes and regulations, construction drawings and project management. As a member of the design team, I am able to perform efficiently under tight deadlines for multiple projects with minimal guidance while collaborating with project managers on enhanced project programming through BIM and visualization tools for problem solving and producing all phases of building design schemes deliverables.
Since the construction industry is getting more complex and innovative rapidly, being a successful professional requires a wide range of expertise from architectural design to smart structures and building systems. Hence, an understanding of aesthetical and scientific aspects of building design plays a vital role in creating environmentally friendly architecture. At Ryerson University Building Science program, I hope to enhance my knowledge on building envelopes and integrated control systems. Your community and curriculum offers the ideal program to build myself into a leading designer and community advocate. Furthermore, my ultimate goal is to lead the creation of livable buildings that are environmentally conscious, economically vibrant, ethnically diverse and amenable to families of all socioeconomic statuses. Your program's world-class faculty, unparalleled curriculum and network, make it my top choice program. The location of Ryerson University is also an attractive factor. I look forward to the prospect of joining your incoming class next fall, and developing the intellectual ability and practical insight that lays the blueprint for my success as an architect.
