CSUN MPA Statement of Intent review! I look forward to the culmination of this program.

Hi, writing a letter of intent for an MPA. Could someone please take a look and review it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

During my undergraduate majoring in Social Ecology at UC Irvine, I gained a broad understanding that our ecological problems arise from social issues. With the various studies of social issues and how they relate to the environment, I knew I wanted a career in the public sector; however, I struggled to identify a particular field of interest. What I had was a desire to impact public life. While volunteering at public schools, completing community service, and observing field studies, I was exposed to the way individuals could meaningfully participate and impact the life of a community and remedy those social issues.

Following graduation, I obtained jobs with both federal and local government agencies. While simultaneously working at the Transportation Security Administration and City of ____ my attraction toward a career in the public sector was that it will allow me to play a part in the planning and building of a future in a community. At the City I became involved with the community by attending public events and hosted City sponsored events. I regularly worked together with community leaders and government officials who devoted their lives to public service. These individuals inspired me. Like them, I want to be actively involved in the distribution and design of essential government services that improve the lives of the public.

Upon completion of the graduate study, my goals are to pursue leadership and executive level positions and expand my potential for success at the City of ____ or other public agencies. It will provide me with the best possible credentials and knowledge to be competitive in the public sector workforce. Being one of the top 25 online MPA programs in the nation, I am confident that this will allow me to utilize my academic abilities along with my experience to become a leader for the community and an advocate for positive change for the people I serve. I look forward to the culmination of California State University Northridge's MPA program, leading into a genuinely rewarding career and livelihood for my family and me.

Expand on the second paragraph by going into a more detailed explanation as to how you plan on improving the public sector. The reasons and comments that you currently provide are more indicative of a general idea of what you want to do. You need to be more specific by presenting a more relevant plan of action, as applicable to a specific public problem as the reason for your interest in gaining a masters degree in this field. Therefore, you need to revise the first part and a portion of the second part of the essay.

State the problem you wish to help resolve clearly. Explain why you have a strong desire to fix that problem. It is at this point when you can include a discussion of your previous experience in the field that led you to this decision. Your exposure in the field will be the basis of your preparation for higher studies and a career in this sector of public service.
