I have always wished for a good education which would provide me with a strong footing in my ever growing career in the field of Computers. Hence, having done an inspiring four-year course in Computer Science and Engineering, I would like to pursue Masters Degree in Computer Science. Having been born and brought up in a business background, my father per se is an entrepreneur in his business and is very well known in the industry. I look up to graduate studies to refine my knowledge and skills in my areas of interest which I believe will also serve to give direction to my goal of a career as an entrepreneur of a research-oriented organization therefore I intend to pursue Master's degree in order to reach that goal.

The project I completed at my bachelorette "Ensuring Data Storage Security in Cloud Computing". The development of the application was to provide security to the client's data before storing it on the cloud. The client application had encryption/decryption giving clients the resources to protect the data before putting it anywhere on the cloud. The motivation for selecting this particular topic for my project was my deep rooted interest in Cloud Computing, Information Security, Computer Network and Database Management.

My academic pursuit show the completion of my bachelorette with Class I completion which made the choice of building on my theoretical knowledge into practical accomplishment which will help me contribute to the world of computers on the believe that theory and application in Computer Science go hand-in-hand. Presently I am also working as business development manager for a small firm to support my further education. I have worked on technologies to the development of a basic website during my bachelor degree course. My interest for security and networking is depicted by the topic of my Final Year project. Also, I am an avid gamer and would relish the opportunity to learn the process of game development through Artificial Intelligence.

A special mention for my curricular/extracurricular activities which have made me the person I am today. I was elected as the college sports person for two consecutive years representing the college. I also actively take part in elocution competitions, debating society meetings and have been the editing the yearly college magazine for the English section in Juvenilia '11 &'12. These activities have led to the development of a multifaceted personality and have equipped me with strong interpersonal skills. This helps me to lead, as well as follow the leader when working as a team.

Having done my undergraduate studies at undoubtedly one of the best undergraduate institutions in India, I would consider it my privilege to be able to pursue my master degree at UNC-Chapel Hill having extensive research opportunities in the field of Computer Security to offer. Professor Michael K. Reiter is one of the leading researchers in this field with his research program against Information & Computer Security. The research interests of other faculty members include topics of latest development in the field of Computers giving the right exposure to different fields. The excellent facilities offered by your department will provide an environment conducive to successful graduate work. Hence I would go a long way towards achieving my goals with an opportunity to pursue the research career at University Of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.

Thanks
Anuraag Shah

This is good, but pay attention to the following as well;
The admission committee forms their first impression about you by reading your SOP. Therefore, you need to display a little bit of creative talents there for them to remember you out of hundreds of applicants. You need to show them you are a right type of student for their college. So tell them how you developed your passion for this field and how much you are attached to it. How you can contribute to their student community, etc.etc.

Statement Of Purpose Master In Computer Science

Belonging to a business background family, going against all odd for my natural inclination towards computer having now completed an inspiring four-year course in Information Technology(IT), I would like to pursue Masters Degree in Computer Science which will give direction to my goal of a career as an entrepreneur of a research-oriented organization.

The passing of my undergraduate college examination with First Class with Distinction in Information Technology at Sinhgad Institute of Technology, University Of Pune. I have been able to utilize my analytical and problem-solving skills to develop many applications such as Linux-based one-to-one chat application, file system implementation on Linux, 64bit DES (Data Encryption standard) algorithm, etc. Consequently, I have acquired an excellent knowledge of programming languages like C, C++, and JAVA. I have also found penchant for Network Security, Data Structures, Operating System, and programming languages.

In the Pre-final year of my undergraduate term, I carried out a minor project, 'Crime File System', a Client-Server based application, using Visual Basic and Oracle. In the Final Year, I did my major project, 'Ensuring Data Storage Security in Cloud Computing'; a cloud security application developed using Java and My SQL. This application provided Data security on the client app itself, before putting it on the cloud by giving Encryption/Decryption rights to the client. These projects have strengthened my practical knowledge in, JAVA, Information Security, Networking and Database Management. These projects have been commended by my colleagues and faculty members of Information Technology department.

Not only have I excelled academically, but also tried to achieve interpersonal skills by participating in many extracurricular activities. I have been the active member of CSI (Computer Society of India) for four years, during my undergraduate term and have been organizing various guest lectures by experts in the field of Computer. I coordinated events at ' Juvenilia '11 &'12', (Annual Technical College Fest) and volunteered for the publicity drive of 'Juvenilia' , participated & won events of 'Juvenilia'. Also elected as the sports person for 2 years consecutive representing college in Sinhgad Karandak '10&'11.

Presently I am also working as a business development manager for a small firm to help support my further education. I have worked on technologies such as development of a basic website during my bachelor degree course. My interest for security and computing is depicted by the topic of my Final Year project. Also, I am an avid gamer and would relish the opportunity to learn the process of game development through Artificial Intelligence.

United States has always been a leader in technological innovation. After doing research
about the computer science program at University of North Carolina-Charlotte website, I was attracted with the variety of courses and extensive research options like Computing, Artiď-cial Intelligence, and Software Engineering. After conversing with a few students I was convinced that a graduate course from your university will help me get a deeper understanding on the subject and contribute to the society by working on real life engineering problems either in academia or industry. I am aware of the dedication and perseverance required to pursue graduate studies and I strongly believe that I possess the motivation and commitment required to pursue such a demanding course and hope that my credentials will help me qualify as a suitable candidate at University of North Carolina-Charlotte.

Hi Anurag,

The content part of your SOP is fine, but you'll have to work a little on style and sentence construction. Pay attention to grammar!

For example, this sentence is not grammatical: "The passing of my undergraduate college examination with First Class with Distinction in Information Technology at Sinhgad Institute of Technology, University Of Pune." Say something like, "I did my undergraduation course in.."

This is another such ungrammatical sentence: "I have also found penchant for Network Security, Data Structures, Operating System, and programming languages." Go for something like, "I have found Network Security, Data Structures, Operating System, and programming languages interesting."

My advice would be to get your SOP checked by someone who's good with writing and grammar. The content of your SOP is fine, so make sure you don't miss out because of minor errors!
