I am a passionate designer, entrepreneur and activist who loves' art, life and the world. I consider myself as a dreamer with a vision, just as Eleanor Roosevelt's says, "The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." My dream is to become an international design entrepreneur, which I envision to accomplish with my education at XXX .
I love design, because it is more than art and it allows me to draw my innate talents. Design requires me to think critically and creatively; it challenges me. As designer I venture into the world to take risks. By nature I am an optimistic person and I work hard with a strong determination in anything I do; this energy has given me much success in life. I was born in Mumbai, western part of India and grew most of my life in Chennai, southern part of India. I graduated with Bachelors in Visual Communication securing a university rank while majored in graphics and animation and a minor in Advertising Photography and Video Production. After which I got the opportunity to work and study in the United States of America. I worked as Assistant Art / Production designer. On one such opportunity I was fortunate to work on a short film, a production of Sony Pictures which provided me with a wide spectrum of knowledge into the world of media, design and entertainment.
While experiencing the entertainment industry I felt as a incomplete. So I pursued my education in Industrial design, majoring in furniture design and a minor in environmental design. Though I shifted course along the way, today I feel that I had only taken different routes to achieve my dream . The exposure while becoming trained as an industrial designer I was introduced me to the concept of sustainability. This newly gained knowledge in sustainability stirred me into a new philosophy, after which I started to observe and identify new technology and material that had gone unnoticed. I was inspired by the idea to design sustainable products; an inner spark inspired me to design a piece of furniture - a fusion between sustainability and new technology. Contemporary furniture called "IN PARADISE" made from Banana fibers with a LED light system. After my education I returned back to Chennai to explore more options as a sustainable designer. as a step towards that I decide to submit this design for a design competition and was chosen as the Winner of Design Mile 's Future Build Project - Best in Category for "Future Eco Products" and was featured in Home Review , a national acclaimed magazine in India.
Being "Better Educated" is very important to me now. I feel the best way to develop is through education. As education is one of the greatest gift , a good education transforms one's life. An education at XXX is sure a gift as it attracts some of the most talented and fervent designers in the world, and as a student I am excited to meet them and make connections within the design field. Coupled with that the surrounding communities , has a diverse atmosphere where I can learn to mold my designs to reach broader audiences. I am eager to meet new people, and exchange ideas and views, even willing to cross borders into other design fields.
When the world is so rapidly changing I have to be open-minded and enthusiastic to adapt these changes for my personal and professional growth. My experience while at colleges in Indian and the US has the transformed me to believe in the world of opportunities. Opportunities are everywhere; there are no limits to what I can do and I am sure my life at XXX will open up more opportunities.
My ambition is to travel around the world in search of the next new sustainable materials and generate new thoughts patterns that combine tradition with contemporary style. Some could be antique or traditional; products that are given a new identity or purpose. As a designer, I am deeply curious towards new material and technology and also have a keen vision towards combining traditional cultures with modern style . As a beginning to my design journey, I am exploring new materials and products available in India that could be designed differently so as to cater to the world market. For this I have designed Interior Products and Lifestyle Accessories made from new sustainable materials like pomegranate skins and orange peels. As experimentation for my venture, I have implemented traditional jacquard weaving with contemporary lighting systems. The innovation in this design is that the tradition jacquard weaving process used for manufacture silk saree is applied to make the light's bamboo fabric.
I have come to realize that "Being Green" is not the buzzword or the in thing but a smart move. Being green to me is to make products that are better for the humans and help the environment at the same time . I have realized that for me to serve the community is to make products and services that are exclusively sustainable and eco-friendly. designing simple products that are unique is good design. Production of products through fewer resources, less waste or minimal toxic emission with an economical value is good design. Products are to be creating which is high quality right from the start.
A good design, affirms the positive aspects of the relationship between humans and nature. I am a strong advocate of sustainable living. Right now, I am education people around me to buy products or make changes in their life that will provide them a greener living. I am striving to make good choices and better options to lead a greener life. As Tom Kelly says, I wish to be an " Innovator set out to create, to experiment, to inspire, to build new ideas" as my dream is limited only by the thoughts and actions that I chose.
