Statement of Purpose for petroleum engineering
I grew up on a promised land with rich petroleum, which excites my curiosity about petroleum. A book named Gas and Petroleum Exploration have changed the trajectory of my life, since the black petroleum continues to flash upon my mind. It is a high craving for me to travel to the other side of the Pacific Ocean to pursue my dream in petroleum research.
Even five years have passed, I still remember the day I transferred from Chemical Engineering to Petroleum Geology department and attended the first course Sedimentology and Stratigraphy. Surprisingly, I achieved an A for this course, given I have no any background knowledge about petroleum geology. Nevertheless, in the following semester, I felt extremely anxious and embarrassed in class, since it so difficult for me to understand the concepts that professor had explicated to us. Therefore, after class I spent all the time digging into the complicated meaning of each concept. The thornier it was, the harder I strived for. I kept energetic and pushed myself to be more independent and confident.
Based on the increasing interest of petroleum geology, I gained a complete understanding of how bodies of underground oil both theoretically and practically. For instance, I have a deep understanding about how gas and water move and how to tap the resources that they represent. In addition, I learned how to reconstruct the distribution of underground oil, gas and water by means of numerical simulation software, how to create three-dimensional geological model of the oil reservoir, and how to prepare plans of oil field development. Whenever I successfully created a three-dimensional model or proposed a plan for oil field development, I felt a sense of satisfaction.
After graduation, I returned my hometown to become a civic servant, which is served to develop more practical experience and skills. In addition, I helped thousands of women to begin their own business and get financial support within the policy of local government since I worked for the Women's Federation Chairman of East City Municipal Office for three years. As a volunteer for the China International Petroleum and Petrochemical Equipment & Technology Exhibition (CIPPE) for three times since 2011, I realized there is a deep gap between China and United States in developing their own technologies to exploit ultra-deep petroleum. In the exhibition I provide not only the service for the exhibitor but also learn the up-to-date information of petroleum and petrochemical industry, which further intrigued my interest. There is a small place inside of me that it can never lock away, and that place is called passion.
Although everyone around me envy my easy life as a civil servant, I know that it is my destiny to be a petroleum engineer. Whenever I read Gas and Petroleum Exploration,a surge of passion rushed over me.
At present, there is still a big gap between China and advanced Western countries in terms of the technology of petroleum prospection and development, especially in the exploration of shale oil and gas. I hopeI can undertake thorough research in a particular area standing on the shoulders of Giants.Aftera careful consideration of the present situation in the scientific and technological development of China's petroleum industry, I would like to focus my prospective master's program in following fields: a. Reservoir Numerical Simulation; b. Reservoir Engineering; c. Well Testing.
As an ambitious young woman with motivation, self-confidence and enthusiasm, I find A & M University could provide the best platform to pursue my dream. In the future, I will continue to build up my theoretical knowledge, consolidate my basic skills, and learn the most recent advanced technologies. I have a high eager to focus my program on a specific subject that will most satisfythe needs of China's petroleum industry.
