Essay:

I lost my loving father to a severe heart attack. It has been over thirty years ago, but I still vividly remember that night as just yesterday. It was a Moon festival night that we celebrate once a year, on the brightest moonlit night of the year. That night, I was jolted awake by Mother and told that my Father could not breathe. I still and will never forget the look in her eyes at that moment. During that time, we did not have a 911 system in our country. A little thirteen year old girl had to run and knock on the door of all the neighbors and beg them to help bring her father to the hospital at midnight. Finally, one man agreed to help us. When we got to the hospital, the on-call Doctor was on his coffee break and could not be reached. My father was left in the hospital bed with a severe heart attack and received no help despite the begging from the little girl and her mother. Finally, the on-call Doctor returned, but my father had already expired and we were told to come and pick up his body. To this day, no words in the world could ever describe my feelings.

Since then, nursing is the passion in the depth of my heart. Over the years working as a Registered nurse, I have had the opportunity to shadow an advanced practice nurse. Work side by side with Medical Doctor, Family Nurse Practitioners play an important role in the delivery of primary health care, by providing health assessments, direct care and guidance and teaching, particularly around family self-care. I have observed that besides the thorough assessments and critical thinking, effective primary care must be able to educate, communicate, and improve the health status of the patients and their families with whom he/she works with. Viewing each patient as the whole person is the key for better patient's compliance and trust. Nursing, especially Family Nurse Practitioner, is an art and a science: the embodiment of caring. It consists of a unique and integrated body of knowledge and requires multiple ways of thinking and reasoning. It requires commitment and responsibility to society and to the profession.

In conclusion, I believe that I am ready to learn and accept the responsibilities of a Family Nurse Practitioner. It allows me to guide and teach people about self-care, and more importantly, the prevention. I am ready to deliver the best care to my diverted community. I believe the excellent advance nursing degree at (School name) will help me to achieve my dream to become a Family Nurse Practitioner.

Thank you for your time and your consideration.
